Yep, should outlast the truck hahaha

Transfer case was nearly done. I was taking pics as I reassemble it to document here. Fuxored it up by trying to take a shortcut. When reassembling you have to have the damn chain on when you assemble. So essentially like this. Toyota has you assemble in the rear cover. Some do it the other way and thats fine too. I started with the cover and botched it by not having the shift forks in place. Well, got everything into the lid properly and aligned (takes forever and is a royal PITA) and realized I needed those damn shift forks in place. Went to try and slide the shaft side out and was pushing the limits of the front drive clutch sleeve (has the shifting keys). Well, pushed a little too far and one of those fcking shifting keys popped out of place. You have to start all over and I had to pull a bearing to re-do the shaft.

    upload_2022-6-12_13-13-29.jpg

Bearing had to be pulled to re-seat the shifting keys.

    Everything but the driveshaft. B03A - 410
Used it when I put this back together. Dry as a bone 2 years later. It's hell to get off. But you want something that works.

Nice! I wouldn't consider anything else besides their FIPG. Was just curious if people spread it on like peanut butter (on both sides!) or if most just ran a bead. Glad to hear its still running dry.

A bead like the manual will squish and end up looking like sort of like the spread out version

agree, it will certainly spread. That 2nd pic I showed, that was the installer spreading/applying new FIPG with his finger over both surface areas - not what was there when they took it apart. Just seemed excessive to me when I saw that clip.

yeah I avoid doing it when I can even using gloves it makes a mess.

I don't think the female threads in the diff go through to oil, right? So there's no need to spread it around the bolt holes

Agreed, don't think they do either. Not sure why he did it that way (another reason which raised a flag).

Never did enjoy painting, especially with a roller. Spray and go or nothing. Doubt my back could handle that crap these days.

Oof I would not want to paint a vaulted ceiling in my own lol. That must've been fun

Been just me and the kiddo this weekend while my wife's in Vegas, last night was rough... normally we alternate who helps her at night when we she wakes up and who gets up in the AM with her at the buttcrack of dawn.

Then around 4am a fucking enormous possum was rummaging around in the leaves all loud as hell right behind my window for an hour

so glad I have tomorrow off

Looks like they hand painted that rear license plate too.
Interior rotary phone for the win.

That's one of the CA special plates you can pay extra for. Supposed to look antique or something, people actually pay more for it
