Damn! toolboxes are expensive

anyone kno a good source to find toolboxes that are slightly cheaper.. i like the truck chest type that doesnt show over bed rails.

 

Try craigslist or lowes

 

I've got a Kobalt from Lowe's hardware. They were quite a bit cheaper.

 

We get ours from Tractor Supply for $89.00 each unless they're on sale (happens occasionally). They're great boxes, all aluminum powder coated black with locking dual-side latches and gas lid pistons. Their only downside is they tend not to seal out dust well.

 

I caught mines on craigslist. A nice chrome weatherguard box for 200.

 

Anyone know how i would fasten or attach a chest type bow in my bed??

 

We use bolts through the bottom of the chest and into the floor of the bed, for chests narrower than the bed rails.

For chests that are the width of the bed rails, we run bolts through holes in the side of the box, and into the bed rails.

Pretty basic and is pretty easy to do. Just need a cordless drill and couple wrenches.

 

Yea but honestly im not very fond of drilling a bunch of holes in my truck. will if i have to i guess

 

You can use j hooks that mount into your bed rails

 

j hooks with a chest type? doesnt go over bed rails

 

oops my bad OP thats what i get for not reading carefully. Ya then i think the only mounting method would be drilling. It probably isnt too hard to fill in if your worried about drilling into your truck. I would imagine that you could find some sort of black epoxy or what not to fill in the holes if you ever took the chest out

 

They'll look like drain holes. No big deal.

I got a rigid jobsite box and mounted it in my bed by using brackets i bolted to the bed. Home depot had it for about $175 and it cannot be broken into or stolen, the truck would have to be stolen for the box to be stolen

 

What do you consider cheap or expensive? I bought my UWS chest off of Amazon.com for $261 shipped. My local accessory shop was asking about $100 more for the same thing, so I figured I got a good deal.

 

I really like UWS. thats what im shooting for but the ones that Im interested in are more like 350-400$.. kinda steep. Thats a truck payment ha! i will check Amazon

Just did a Google Shopping search for TPC42W. Street Side Auto has it for $259 shipped.

 

Hummm, that's not the $89 box we get up here in Ohio.

Here's one of ours...it's great because it sits elevated off the bed so materials can still go under it. But it doesn't hang over the sides of the bed like the OP hated.

 

yea.. I've shopped them a little, I don't think 200 bucks is a huge deal. Maybe you're in the "craftsman/snapon" section
