WTF is up with these things?

My brother just got like a bag of 100 of them talking about it’s a Jeep thing and I wouldn’t understand.

I used to have a TJ so I understand the Jeep thing and I understand that I wouldn’t be putting a cheesy ass duck on another man’s vehicle. You put one on mine and that thing is gonna find a home in the fucken trash can.

He asked me if I wanted to start putting rubber tacos on trucks. GTFO.

It’s a Jeep thing. Get a small rubber duck, put a tag on it that says something like “nice Jeep!” Then put a club name or some identifier on it. Whoever receives the duck gets a compliment and an invitation to a club. Or just simply a compliment.

I had no clue about the whole duck thing till I got ducked in Moab. It’s actually kind of a cool little thing.

Some Lady up in Canada, started this a few years ago.

Short of the long…. Place a little rubber duck on a person’s jeep you like. When the person finds it, they are supposed to post up about it. There is supposed to be a little tag on it to link you to a site to post a pic and location. Then you, do the same to another and so on.

I have found a few on mine but have never done anything with it. Kinda irritates me that someone is screwing with my vehicle. Yeah, the are just setting it somewhere easy to see, but still. makes me wonder if anything else has been messed with.

That said, here be a link if yea wanna read how it started.

They already have shit vehicles compared to our Tacomas, so they have to invent any little thing that makes them feel better about their poor life choices.

And Jeep owners were not even original as the whole duck thing has been going on for years before they started it....

From the MINI's On Top web site:

It All Started With a Duck
Why It's An Honor To Be Given One...

The Big Duck, a well-known landmark, started it all. This landmark sits by a road in Hampton Long Island and was happened upon during a MINI gathering some years ago. Ed “MAXAMINI” Smith was a whimsical man who many grew to love and frequented many events, drove a 2003 MCS, Electric Blue (in Ed’s case, Eccentric Blue) with white wheels. During Ed’s visit to the Long Island icon, he was fascinated with The Big Duck and purchased a rubber duck at the souvenir shop. The duck immediately found a place on the antenna of MAXAMINI. Ever since then, the duck became an icon.

Ed was always willing to lend a hand; he volunteered his time and good humor to MINIs on Top and the Make-A-Wish Toy Drive. Ed’s dedication and enthusiasm ran endlessly, making friends and wise-cracking his way around the global via MINI Forums. When Ed met you for the first time, he would present you with a DUCK. When you pass a MINI in your travels, take notice how many MINI owners sport a yellow rubber duck… All thanks to Ed.

Ed passed away suddenly in the summer of 2005. The worldwide outpouring of affection for Ed demonstrated how one man could bond so many people around the world from Australia to England and back to the United States!

    IN MEMORY OF ED SMITH,

REMEMBER TO NOT TAKE YOURSELF TOO SERIOUSLY AND ENJOY LIFE!

More information for those that care:

    https://www.minisontop.org/why-the-duck/

MINIs On Tops is an event for people who own/drive/like MINIs/Mini's, where the day culminates with a sunset drive up Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. Typically a charity is chosen and money earned from the event is donated to that charity.

I absolutely think this should be a toyota thing.

Dont be surprised if a few of you get this on your windshield with a little post-it that says: "Nice TRD!"

Plus they waive every time they pass each other, dumb! And yes I have had multiple wranglers in the past. Last was a 2017 with 10K miles and a MT that was replaced under warranty then promptly sold.

My wife and I have seen a couple Jeeps with like 20+ of these ducks all sitting across the dash, while driving down the road......

"Congratulations, you have a Claymore mine on your dash. If you stop too suddenly, or get into a front end wreck, you're going to have a face full of them."

It always tickles me when a comment suddenly gets a bunch of notifications a year after the fact.

It's like revisiting a landmine, one I don't remember burying.
