    Yeah Canada and the US are pretty similar yet also pretty different however, pretty much every reason why its great to be American also applies to being Canadian at least compared to the rest of the world outside North America... now if only Mexico would get its shit together

    The one thing that has bugged me for so long is other nations criticism of our defense budget...

    but everyone fails to realize is that the US has been protecting the Western World for almost 60 years. The only reason why Nations of Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand can afford to live with small defense oriented defense force is due to the treaties with the US and our large military forces. Had we cut back... they would have had to beef up. So where we were building this great police force to protect our interests (i.e a Free Europe, Terrorism free North America, and other democratic ideals) Europe has been using their money to help their people... which is unfortunate for our people... maybe Europe and Canada should have paid for this protection

    A very good point , especially during the cold war , however in the present , do you not agree that some oversight of the US military budget could allow for a reduction in spending without impacting it's current fighting ability ?

    Ultimately , the dilemma is , what good will a huge armed forces be if the country it's protecting goes bankrupt ?
