native Houstonian here, moved back to Houston from the PNW last year.
having severe nature withdrawals here in the concrete jungle/swamp.
since there are no forest service roads to wander down and explore in the great state of Texas - where do y'all go to get a little dirt on the truck???

I'm pretty sure Sam Houston National Forrest has some service roads that people have done some meetups and driven through. There are also privately owned adventure parks that I've seen events held at, as well. Big Bend National Park is another option, if you don't mind a drive.
I see events listed on here for trail rides and meetups. Haven't been to one, but I've been meaning to. Plus there's always driving the beaches around Brazoria County Beach.

We went out to Creekside Off Road Park this weekend and had a great time, also if you go out to Matagorda Beach you can drive for miles along the beach! I've heard good things about the hill country overland trail, it's been pretty dry so it may not be as pretty/technical as it can be.

    Hi everyone,

I just relocated to Lexington, KY from South Korea and I'm shipping my first gen to the states. It's going to be arriving in Freeport around July 7-11. I have a long travel kit from Solo and various other parts waiting in CA right now. I was originally intending on shipping the truck to Solo but rates are very high, and driving across the country and back with gas prices and putting ~4,000 miles on my vehicle isn't ideal either.

I was wondering if there are any great shops in or around Houston or Dallas that you would trust with a project like this. This will also involve some welding as I'll be doing Solo's WIY double sheer kit and Total Chaos cam adjuster gussets, fiberglass fenders, and perhaps even need hydro bumps set up too. I would like to deal with someone who is kind and has good pricing.

I'm not sure this is what I will do. I still have a little time to make up my mind. I just want to get the opinion of the locals. A friend has already informed me that he wouldn't really wouldn't recommend getting it down in Lexington.

As far as all other mods go, this site is a wealth of info. I don’t know anyone or any shop in the Houston or Dallas area doing work like that. Although it’s certain that there are quite a few.
If you’re looking for a tune though, KDMax!

    Hi Houstontonions? Houstoners?

I'm flying down there on the 11th in the morning to visit the customs office and attempt to clear customs on my own behalf. The truck should arrive on the 11th or 12th. Not sure if I'm going to be able to go to Freeport and just drive it away after it clears or if I'll be forced to ship it somewhere, since it doesn't have a title or registration. It has Korean temporary plates and I'm not sure if they will take those away or not.

It's likely I will not be having the suspension installed in Texas.

If anyone wants to recommend some places to eat, places to visit, or wants to grab some food/get a beer, just send me a message on here :) I might be around for a couple days sitting in a hotel room otherwise.
