So out of the blue, my gas door on my 2019 offroad is misaligned, so i have to pull it downward to close to prevent it from scratching up the paint on top.
I read some post that twisting of the plastic cap holder caused the metal door to get twisted.
Any remedy of getting it aligned
    Thank you
    Barry

My 2020 OR was also misaligned. Got used vehicle so not sure if it was mishandled or wrong since day 1.

So my 2 cents...... I paid careful attention to what corner it was too close and what corner it was too far away in. Also, if it was sunken in towards cap/bed or popped out towards fuel up side. With that in mind I opened door and very gingerly held door and bent bracket in the needed direction it needed to go. Took me a few times and have to be careful other wise could rip it off or ruin bracket. If you get it close the snap latch helps to hold centered when closed.

How bad is it? Picture? If real bad may need professional help.

I can't understand all these gas door issues. Every toyota truck i've owned they've been fine. You do know they need to be greased every now, and then, or you'll end up bending them.

My 2017 gas door got all f-ed up as well, not sure why. Never greased my 2009, and did NOT have any issues.

I test drove a lot a trucks before I found mine. I do look for misaligned panel lines, fenders, doors, bolts that hold on fender, tailgate, etc. for signs of replacement/tampering/accidents. Everyone I saw that I remembered to look at was fine. The truck I bought had issue and I knew it. I was like I can fix that. Bracket is thin stamped metal. I can bend it back. I am a DIYer anyway.

Also I live in PA where you pump your own gas and my truck was originally registered in NJ where they pump for you. So someone could have mishandled, even the previous owner. I am in no way saying was a Toyota issue. An OP had a question and I answered best I could.

Out of how many Tacomas they are moving I doubt a factory issue with a part that has been installed on how many generations of all vehicles.

I think the cause is the tether being caught at the hinge joint rather than a greasing issue. Just a theory.

Barry, when you say this do you mean the plastic panel where the neck comes through and the door and bracket are riveted to? Pardon me if I am off base here.

My theory is based on someone closing the door but noticing some resistance and stopped. seeing his tether was caught at the hinge just in time. Idiot!

Idk, had one one my 2001 tundra for ever, and never an issue, but after a period of time the door would get hard to close. Forcing it to close would cause bad things to happen. I use to spray it with chain lube about once a year, same with the tail gate latching/locking system.
