I read somewhere in here that Tacomas OEM pink fluid is great for the aluminum but horrible for the gaskets causing premature failure thus the known blown head gasket syndrome? Curious about everyone’s experience and opinions. I have both on hand, don’t want to deal with deteriorating head gaskets!

Pink all the way. Idk who you heard that from, but they probably weren't Japanese Toyota Engineers :)

With a clean cooling system you can run either without any concern. Avoid mixing coolant types

Well that would be wonderful....if engineers made the final decision.......instead of some executive eyeing bottom line and production quota.....
Challenger disaster comes to mind....engineers warned about those deadly o-rings, but were over ruled to stay ontime/onbudget...

They use to think asbestos was a cure all, cheap, easy to make binder, that they ended putting in everything....

In the 90's some auto oem's started using soy based insulation on all wiring......boy that was a disaster...

Those same engineers now say its better to have a turbo 6 in your brandnew tundra instead of a V8......
    Better for who?

Looks like the switch to OAT and HOAT was for environmental purposes....
I guess the red slime is safe to eat.......

The previous owner did a proper flush and refilled with your typical green coolant. I have a some pink fluid laying around as my old Tacoma had orange fluid which I was going to change before I had to return it to the dealer for other major problems. Trying to decide if I should keep the green or make the effort to flush again and refill with Toyota pink?

My best advice is over flush, way over flush if switching, or dont know its history....
    dont ever mix.....

I still think best thing is a good 'ol $12 gal of prestone from wally world every year, or every other year....they even stock it in their grocery stores...its totally inorganic....but its corrosion additives only last couple years....then it turns on you....

I cant use the asian red....it will rreact with my champion radiator..distroys it...
notice how it reacts with the aluminum in the air and forms a foamy slime.....it may be from the silica they add....
Honda wont even use it.....they use the OAT blue formula.....

Sorry - truth is difficult, simple solutions are not..... now I'll be targeted like the Justices....crazy 'ol coot....even 'Scotty' disagrees with me....

Oh wow. Kinda of crazy to see that! I think the radiator was replaced with a champion so that helped avoided a major issue!

I didnt know about it either, these guys here on the forums tipped me off, these guys SAVED MY ASS, and a new engine....
pointed me to that blog......and that's when I found out how difficult it was to flush a system that was completely coated, the red laughed at plain old hot water...took 8 or 9 fill and drive cycles...

What Coolant Color Should I Use In A Champion Radiator? – Beyond the Checkered Flag (championcooling.com)

For those using the red stuff, your fate is probably already sealed, recommend keeping topped off, try to get as little air in the system as possible.....and change it more often......and dont EVER run it low.....and good luck....
