Yep. First fish I caught out of Donner Lake was a 24" Laker. I thought it was a Brookie at first. All I was thinking was "Damn, that's a big brook". Then I got it close and saw the fork. Now I'm thinking "Damn, that's tiny Laker"

May I ask the advantage(s) of the rubber/plastic landing nets versus the older cotton string/cord nets???

Never heard any actual pros versus cons of each.

I’m applying no pressure, I’m cradling him until he has the strength to swim. He’s also under water.

They’re safer and healthier for the fish, just feel how much rougher the non-coated netting feels against your skin. Non-coated netting material causes excessive scale and mucous loss, potentially harming the fish. Plus, your flies and line won’t get caught and knotted in a rubber or rubber-coated net.

I fished there last summer a bit. There's a forest road on the west side, south of the park that I'd drive back that was a little technical and fun. Didn't realize how close the road was on the east side for easier access. Found a stolen F250 out there. Those are some strong healthy fish in that stream.

Those boys can get pretty fat. Not Labrador fat but still fat. Labrador is on my list of places to hit when I retire.

Certainly not Labrador, but there are still places here where one can still catch 5+ lb native brookies.

Yep. I've fished a few of them. When I was back east I took 2 weeks off every July. Part of that was climbing in Acadia and part was seeking big fish. Now that I'm in Cali there's plenty of big trout but not big brooks. There's one place that has huge brooks though. Kirman Lake. It's a 3 mile hike in and the fish look like friggin footballs the food source is so rich.
