You almost had a freebie there by getting your gender reassignment surgery most of the way done at the cost of an old outboard.

Now you guys know which side of the aisle I sit on, but hunting has never really been my thing.
One time, and I don't know how old I was, but I was just barely old enough for my parents to let me stay at home alone, I do know that, but my brother had a shotgun and I knew where he hid the shells.

I loaded it up, went to the front porch and saw two doves sitting on the telephone wire. We lived kind of out of the city. Anyway, I pointed the shotgun and fired. I hit one and it fell to our yard. I walked over and picked it up. It was still alive. It died. But I'll never forget that.
Not that its molded me, I just will never forget that. It died right there in my hands. I have never shot anything since.

Now break into my house, and that'll be a whole 'nuther story. I like doves, but not so much thugs.

Kids need to learn about how the real world works. Not the business world, or the school world, or any of that stuff. Everything you do in life has consequences. Hunting and fishing are deep in our psyche. It's a shame millions of people want to shield their kids from how the world actually works at a basic level.

For you to eat, something dies, whether it be plant or animal.

When I was a kid, we used to go fishing on a friends boat out of Rockport, TX. In the same neighborhood, which was probably the nicest in the area, there was a fantastically huge yacht, multiple stories, a deck, lots of room for the ladies. The stern said "Day Money - Rockport, TX"

I've been thinking of putting that on my kayak. :pout:

Well you forgot to eat it, there’s something about eating what you kill that makes you forget about the kill. It’s wired into our brains.

well, if someone comes thru our family room window, I'll send you a knife, fork, and an airplane ticket.
You gotta buy the propane for the grill though.
I'll take the Tacoma out for a spin while you chow down.

Kayaks float and yachts float. It's basically the same thing

Its not the size of your boat, its how you float it.

I have no opinion either way. None of my kids hunt, but that's probably because I never have. If one said they were going hunting tomorrow, I'd say 'don't shoot your foot off".

I probably phrased it poorly. What I was getting at is that there's an entire world built around people not needing to understand how their food gets to them. Burgers are burgers. Salads are salads. You pick everything off the shelf in a grocery store or order it off a restaurant menu.

If I was to venture a guess, I'd imagine most folks would be abhored if they learned how that burger on their plate actually came to be.

Yeah that's true. I think they don't even use bullets, they line em up and use air guns, with a retractable implement.
Like a nail gun that keeps the nail.

See, you're gonna get me political here again lol. What exactly is the point of "free range chickens" or happy cows, or whatever, if they they get lined up for the air gun queue in the end?

It works though. Chipotles sells "happy" dead chickens. And the masses buy in.

"free range" for chickens is essentially a small square box outside that the chickens can wander into if they want. (They never do)

The meat I don't kill and process myself, I buy from a local butcher that sources their products ethically.
