You definitely had your priorities in the right place. Having two independent college educated kids is a strong testament to a great job of parenting!
I sincerely hope that I can get both mine through high school and into college in the next few years. Both are very active in team sports. They work hard - weightlifting, conditioning, team practice, plus occasionally games (volleyball, baseball, football).

    You’re welcome!

Man, I remember those days of wrenching on vehicle late into the night or all weekend long just so I could go to work on Monday…worse case I would have to ride my bicycle or hitch a ride. But you know some have it easy, most have it rough. It all builds character I am told….and I sure am a character! Lol!

It’s funny around here almost all newer Tacoma drivers are over 50, my first Tacoma was a 1990 (man I wish I never sold that one). That said I saw on the news this AM that 28% boomers making over $250,000 are living paycheck to paycheck yet 56% millennials making the same are living paycheck to paycheck. I find those stats very troubling as the lower the family salary the higher the percentage living paycheck to paycheck. Also over 60% of the public can’t cover a $400 unexpected bill! Is it any wonder most Tacoma owners are over 50. I know my girls would be more excited to have a new iPhone than a new car. It’s a sad world we live in these days.

Turned 71 in April and bought myself a new Tacoma. I worked at a BA gas station starting when I was 15 , mowed lawns, worked at a golf course. People definitely stare when they see me hop out of my tacoma20220423_172339.jpg

Children & brain washing, from the time they were born, we told our children you are going to school, graduate from high school. You will go to college and graduate from college, then find a good job.

Even if they did not know what school was or what college was. There were “brain wash” by us parents.
They both graduate from college. Any they have great jobs.

Both my son and daughter did fours years of Judo and wrestling in high school. We went to every meet. Both quality for state championship, but never made it pass the finals. Lol. Was fun .

Looking back, those long years ,each of us, what we went through ,The looking back, the struggles, the success’s , made us today. Besides getting “Old”.

Look at what we all got today, a Tacoma truck. A great forum, hopefully friendships will be form.

All of us here, made this far in life to be here. could have been worst. Like driving a old datsun.. my dad had one, that is how I learn to drive a standard. Still remember trying to use the cutches to get up the hill.

I miss the “Datsun” .. not.

My 2021 Tacoma is my 1st personal new vehicle, I call it new but it had 4000 dealer miles. I never even had car with power windows before this Tacoma. I will note I always let my wife have better / newer / nicer car as she drove my daughter around most, and I didn’t want her being the one driving something that may break down.
I owned 2000 Jeep Wrangler I paid $14K for for about 19 years. Loved up till last couple of years when paint faded, interior was all ragged out. I could not rap my head around truck prices once I started looking for real. Tacoma are my favorite Truck but I initially wanted big truck and It just blew my mind that they were all $60k plus for nice models when you haven’t shopped in years. I bought my wife real nice Avalon 2 years old, fully loaded with like 20k miles in 2018 for 25K, was not expecting nice loaded Trucks with 40K miles to be 45/50K.
    Ended up buying the Tacoma.

Y’all ever have a long delay between buying vehicles where your head just can’t get beyond the sticker shock / inflation?

Nice thing about roll down windows? Don’t need to start the truck.
No A/C just use the wing on the front door. The faster you go the more the wind you get.
Never needed power brakes, two feet on the brake pedal. Works!
Engine bays, old days, climb in, seat on the fender, just reach in.
Remember when fronts seats were all bench style , bucket seats was a wonder!

The good old days, the B-4 days. When coke was in a glass bottle. I hear it is coming back?

Lava-road my dad had a white Datsun pickup too. He couldn't kill the damn thing. One day he came home, I guess he had some kind of fender bender and he had this giant 1 x 3 foot band-aid stuck to the front corner of the truck. Not all Datsuns are bad. I had a Datsun 240z for some time in college. Very fun car.

Drove my first Toyota truck back in 1982, (straight outta high school) when I got a job for a small landscape company. They had 2 old Dodge trucks & also had an ‘84 Toyota one ton pickup. Used to pull a 2000 pound trailer with that thing. Very reliable! After several years, They got a new truck, an ‘88 with a stake side 10 foot bed. Eventually, I wound up owning the business after the guy I worked with retired in 1995. Sold the business 2 years later, picked up a ‘93 pickup, drove that for about 8 years..got rear ended on the freeway. Sold that one & found my first 4x4, (an ‘03) in 2005. Loved that truck. That one was totaled last August by a kid that ran a red. I was very lucky to find my currant truck (2018 SR) before the craziness of the everything shortage. I’m now 58. I’ll prob always be a Toyota guy. They’ve never let me down. I’ve had such good luck over the years with them, I’d be crazy to stop now!

Mr Kiichiro TOYODO son of Mr Toyoda was the person who got his family into the car business, later they change there name to TOYOTA. Reason was to spell Toyota took 8 Japanese brush strokes, 8 is consider a lucky number in Japan. And Toyota sounded better.

later in years, Toyota wanted to focus on building reliable cars. They use aftermarket spark plugs and it had a 3% failure rate. Mr Toyota, wanted a better result so he built his own spark plugs. He wanted to keep the cost low. He built parts factories surrounding the main factory. It reduced shipping cost at that time.

Today Toyota often do not change the dependable parts , hence TOYOTA developed a reputation for reliability.
Compare to Ford and chevys and dodges, who changes things often and quickly.

Those who drove Toyotas most of there life, reliability, dependable, fuel efficient. Buying a TOYOTA became a habit.

Yup 63 and still enjoy driving my Tacoma daily to work. Hoping for the drive to work to end in a few years. Though with Gas prices I may have to work longer.
