Fill it in with sharpie and pretend it never happened.

Also unrelated to what I just said I'll be putting my S-works stumpjumper frame up for sale in the next day or two as well as 2021 Fox 34 and GX Eagle Carbon Cranks (170mm).

the fatigue failure is what scares me. maybe ill see if i can break it with just my hands. if it doesn't break should be good to ride right?

Didn't mean to scare you with the details, I just really nerd out about that kinda stuff and like to share the learning.

The good thing about a fatigue failure is it will usually start to present itself as little cracks before it actually fails. We're talking thousands of cycles before failure

I wouldn't worry about it. Everything is designed with a factor of safety. And a scratch on the side of the bars would be in one of the lowest loading areas. When you're pressing down on the drops, the top and bottom of the tube are really what is doing the work to prevent bending

As many times as I've smashed my aluminum bars into trees and rocky surfaces with no effect other than cosmetic scratches, I'd say you're overthinking this.

But if it's really eating away at you, a set of bars aren't that expensive to not fret every time you ride your bike.

Partially grew up and then lived post-grad in Seattle for a while. It doesn't ever get SUPER cold in B-ham and such like it does in SLC, Colorado, etc. Summers can def get warm (and warmer than the past lately) but still pretty decent compared to eastern WA or the mountain west.

Wetness is the biggest decider, but usually the trails there are pretty forgiving of being ridden in various states of wet (some more than others), vs Utah where the pitchfork mob would rightfully hang you from the trailhead gallows if you did the same.

Kingdom Trails weekend in East Burke, VT. 50 miles over two days including some road riding. I was able to revisit Upper J-Bar on Burke Mountain after my first time which was my first year riding. Still can't believe my progression over the years!

Steep and Loose was the theme... we sent probably the gnarliest rock shoot I've ridden to date. Might have to go back and get some footage. 100% Double Black in current shape trail was in.

Fack, no bueno...RIP. Curious to what kind of shape the guy was in general?

That article though? 2.5 gallons of water for a 32 mile DH trail?? I couldn't end imagine riding with that much water with me let alone drinking that much one a 3-4 hr time period while riding....

"If doing activities outside, the CDC recommends drinking at least 8 ounces of water every 15 minutes."

The Palisade plunge is super exposed, super hot, and WAY pedally and technical for a "downhill" track.

At Fears Tears and Beers this weekend, I drank just over a gallon start to finish and I only did 17 miles, and was still slightly behind the curve.

yea 1 gallon is 3.7 liters. so 2.5 gallons is 9.25 liters. a nalgene is 1 liter. a gallon weighs about 8 pounds.

im not sure if i could even carry that much water without a big backpacking bag full of water. or a trailer to carry one of those aqua-tainers. or a molle panel somewhere and attach some rotopax lol

    Yeah.
Doing some kitchen math and assuming a 6 mph average pace, that would work out to 1.3 gallons needed according to those guidelines, but that still sounds a bit short. My Camelbak MULE is 100 oz., add a 20 oz. bottle to the bike and I'd still be short of a gallon. I'd never try that whole thing during warm weather. I did Porcupine Rim in mid-September with only the MULE, missed a turn and ended up adding a few miles (but got some good scenery). So 16 miles total and was rationing a bit at the end.

Headed there next weekend, can't wait!
Guys from the CDC need to leave their desks and actually get out and do active things... I get what they're saying. I try to hydrate a lot the days before a long ride. How hydrated you are at the start of an activity can really dictate how well you cope with being under hydrated.

Looked it up. Looks like a bad ass trail...

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that's NOT a trail that should be done solo in the summer 102 temp.

Who knows how much he actually started with or what happened. Total bummer.

    https://www.velonews.com/news/mountain-biker-dies-on-palisade-plunge-due-to-heat-related-illness/

This article said 3 guys that saw him at mile 28 were outta water too. Man that would be a shit feeling to be there and totally helpless.

Yea you'd need a pack mule for that extra 30 lbs of water... woof. Molle panel mounted to your Camelbak so you can mount a rotopax.
