Would you look at that. Real data. I wonder why uptop didn't share this data from the truck they have had it on for the two years they prototyped it with.

It seems like the case is closed. I noticed a huge difference in the performance of my truck after installing the uptake. Mostly on the top end of the RPMs before I shift. I also have a manual so that might add to the factor.

I completely agree the problem is simply the down tube on the snorkel is too small of a diameter. As an engineer it is the concept that only a finite amount of air can move through it as flow is regulated by the diameter of the tubing. Even if they add larger diameter tubing to connect it is going to be sucking not enough air from the choke point. The solution would be redesign the complete snorkel but that would be a huge cost for them as they probably have a ton already made that they are hoping to scam some more people with.

Reading this thread I am not surprised. $1000 for a snorkel is a joke especially when reputable companies like Dobinson and ARB sell them for half or more (I paid $250 for my Dobinson on sale). Like all things with this company they seem full of shit. Just look at their roof racks, they claim static and dynamic load testing has been completed yet they don't provide the numbers, then go on to say they recommend not exceeding vehicle specs which in most cases is 100# dynamic, so you're spending $1200+ for a rack to hold 50 pounds? You're spending $1000 on a snorkel to reduce engine airflow?

They aren't even close to premium, we have seen several people swap their uptop racks with Sherpa due to quality and design issues.

Show me a rack of theirs that is $1,200 and only hold 50lbs. I have their brave rack and paid less than $700 which is what you’d pay for a Prinsu and holds way more than 50lbs. Also this thread is about their snorkel. Even if the snorkel has a design flaw. That doesn’t make all their other products garbage lol I had their bravo rack on my last truck before getting in a rollover accident and that rack took a beating but kept the roof of my truck from getting any damages in the 2 times I rolled. I now have their bravo rack on my new Tacoma and love
It. I’m not sponsored by them but I do stand by their quality.

I'm going to be upset if this thread gets locked before the company gets this figured out and follows up here. It's a great opportunity for someone selling high-dollar equipment go back it up with the data and address the concerns here.

To be fair, you won't get accurate numbers for any roof rack brand; its all about liability in the end. My only experience with this company IS their roof rack, and my experience is the racks are of extremely good quality when compared to others out there. As for load ratings, we can all use a little common sense to figure out how much is too much.

I think accuracy is a loaded statement considering several manufacturers offer these ratings. So while I agree that there is some liability, at the end of the day we are comparing the fact that companies are providing them and this one is not. If they have legitimately done them, then they should be shared but I think it comes down to some dude who put some stuff on his truck and called it “tested”

Prinsu is the ultimate example of what you just said:
"Our roof rack will hold a roof top tent and 2-3 people, so about 600 LBS static weight and about 300 LBS dynamic weight.

*disclaimer: we do not have our rack weight rated but we have field tested them."

I'm not trying to defend Uptop (I have zero affiliation with them; only bought a used rack 3rd party and giving my experience). I think Uptop summed it up really well in their description concerning weight capacity of their racks; summarized, the rack's structural integrity has the capacity to load more weight than the vehicle could safely support, so use your noodle when loading up, and refer to your vehicles specs. I don't think people need to know how much 80/20 extrusion can hold before it breaks, because they're dumb enough to do it driving down the road. Again, its all liability on the company, and even when the rack claims it supports X amount of weight, the companies still recommend referring back to the vehicle's specs.

None of this takes away from the fact that uptop hasn't provided numbers for the snorkel though; thats what really matters here.

Ya the rack data is mainly pointing out a pattern of behavior. But their products look cool which is what most people are paying for.

Alright guys. Let us keep this post civil.

We need to point out only the facts not about how we feel about this company. What we do know is their products are not designed by an engineer. If there is one working there then he sure as hell ain't chiming in on this thread to defend his credentials or products. Especially the snorkel. This would lead us to believe none of their products have been tested with any standard of measurement that could be proven to be held up for the level of engineering maybe even liability on their part. But let us table the other products for another thread this one if for the snorkel. Hopefully they will come forward with some data on the snorkel because at this point everything we have gathered on here is showing us that it should be recalled. As I said in my last post they are continuing to scam everyone.

I like that SK808 actually substantiated his claims with hard figures and even graphed it out for us to view and be able to draw conclusions from. I'll take substantiated criticisms backed up by actual data all day rather than just being salty about the price and unsubstantiated anecdotes claiming all their products suck without even a pic to back it up like others in this thread. Looking forward to seeing if Uptop has anything to say about this.

You will never see any hard data from them because it will prove that their product is shit and they've been knowingly selling it that way.

That's about the conclusion I've come to. Only hard data posted is by @SK808, plus a mysterious dyno result that was too bad to post. Looks like some Instagram engineering here.

They haven’t responded to multiple threads about it. And this one thread involving a dyno was specifically redacted “out of respect” to them which in of itself pretty telling.

At this point I'm wondering how they came up with price tag as I look for a replacement option. We should not have paid for any R&D because there was none done.

I found a full carbon fiber one that is cheaper than the hunk of cheap plastic I have right now. Think I might just go back to stock. Really did like the look of a snorkel.

That Alphaequipt looks like it'll be in the same boat as the Uptop. No claims of testing, very small diameter.

I don't think anyone posing for Instagram wants to admit this, but the reason the Dobinsons, ARB/Safari, and In-House Fab look the way they do is because of their testing and functionality. Not sleek and streamlined by any means but they don't impede airflow like the drinking straws companies are coming out with now.

Dobinson, function > form. Wait for a holiday and they go on sale around $250-$300 but prices always go up.

If I was doing it again, I would consider a modified aibox with a cowl snorkel or whatever they call it.

Very happy i found this thread. It makes sense why here in west Africa all you see is safari snorkels on trucks.
