We recently picked up a new Mercedes for the wife and it had a "market adjustment" on there for 5k. The salesman broke down what and why they charged that. Walking out, didn't pay it but I get it.

I found my unicorn, black TRD pro with a manual transmission!
The dealer has a 10k market adjustment. I get that the pros are hard to get but is 10k excessive?

    Yikes!

Sad days when sticker price is considered a good deal…

It kinda is a rip-off, but they know someone with more $$ than brains will pay the extortion fee b/c they want it so bad. IF this $5 gas keeps up people will start dumping trucks again and maybe the prices will come down to normal. I may have overpaid for my Taco too, but I also found the perfect one so I went for it.

I believe they are selling used in the $60k range for 2020+ with low miles. Unfortunately that is the market we are in right now. The vast majority of new ones are pre-sold. It’s just supply and demand at this point… As Bravo64 said, maybe prices will come down with gas prices. For now, I think that kind of markup on a Pro is not out of the norm.

While I agree that kind of markup may not be out of the norm for a unicorn truck like that in today's world, I have to wonder how much of a markup like that is just "greedflation"...seeing how far they can push the ripoff. I hope at some point when the supply/demand curve resembles something closer to normal we all remember the dealerships that treated us this way.

Its just always amazing to me, people want to buy vehicles when stock is limited and prices are marked up. It reminds me of the stock market where people FOMO into a stock that has already surged 120% but they didnt think it was a good buy when it was under valued.

If you dont NEED a car right now why would you ever go shopping for one?

Seems normal in the US. In Canada, they would go to Court. We pay MSRP or less.

Well the issue is, most likely toyota will drop MT with new Gen 4, so folks like me who like to shift gears are stuck. The only reason I bought my taco TOR DCSB is because of MT availability and being able to have all options like leather cameras all-power etc. I overpaid about 2.5k for so called usefuI options like protection treatment. I would have rather bought another Saab. I have 9-5 aero sport combi 5spd MT, but stupid GM killed that option about 9 years ago. Other options were Bronco and Jeep and you can't pay me enough to drive that garbage. Jeep even managed to screw up clutch plates, they were catching fires and there was a recall about 2 yrs ago.

    Yes, 10k over is excessive.

I wanted 2022 magnetic grey trd pro. The Dealer I finally went with wanted 7k over mrsp. I negotiated down to 4k over. I had to be willing to shop all over the entire country though. Called numerous dealers a few of which were 10k to 15k over ( I literally laughed in their face only to see it be sold within the week). Out of 18 vehicles over the years I've Never have paid mrsp let alone over. In the end im happy with the purchase as I got exactly what I wanted and will keep for many years to come.

Keep in mind I bought my 2020 trd pro for 2k UNDER mrsp

Be willing to call around a lot. Dont cave for more than your budgeted number.

I got my MGM Pro two months ago. Shopping around in Ca $10k over seems to be the norm in NorCal and SoCal areas. I live in the Central Valley. My dealer started at $5k over and I ended up paying $3k over the same as they were asking for Off Roads.

Out Of Control, thank goodness I don’t need a new car or truck right now. I, personally, wouldn’t pay the extra. Someone will, though.

I have a contract for a MGM Pro MT for MSRP. Production date is July 7th. If you are willing to wait, there are dealers that are not doing the "market adjustment" thing.

Mark Miller Toyota in SLC, UT is doing Pros for MSRP and all other models for MSRP minus $500.

Yep. June 2020 I paid $5k less than MSRP including the weather tech floor mats and Pro skid plate. Now I am watching people pay $5k+ over MSRP on used Tacoma's.

If you think new prices are crazy don’t go looking at used. A well know online dealer has a ‘21 Pro with 7k mikes listed right now for no haggle $61k. Crazy! Makes me feel a little batter about what I just paid for mine.

The goal was to get a brand new fully loaded MT truck, which I did. Initially I placed an order with a local dealer back in January 2022. After waiting for 4.5 months and seeing several other dealerships in my area getting fully loaded MT tacos I saw one coming in to another dealership and pulled the trigger. MT trucks are rare and with expectations of the 4th Gen coming out in 23 without MT, I decided not to wait pay the premium and get what I want.

Well your were picking up a new Mercedes, soooo, 10k is not expensive for you lol. Dealers change what they charge, it's up to you to pay it or not. If 10k means nothing to you, go ahead. I personally would not get a truck at all if there is such type of market adjustment. I can live with a Prius ( not joking at all).

Many times dealerships that claim to sell you a vehicle at MSRP have other ways of obtaining dealer mark-up. Try finding a dealership nowadays that doesn't add unwanted items to every vehicle on their lot like alarms, vin etching, paint sealant, etc. Of course they claim they can't take it off because its already installed but if you get up and start walking out their door they mysteriously find a way to reduce the price of the vehicle equal to the costs of those add-ons.

Dealerships that also claim to sell at MSRP will also have pretty high "document fee's" and will not offer you the lowest financing rate available. They will also push non-oem extended warranties and charge exorbitant labor charges if you want any accessories.

Before anyone chimes in saying that "my dealership" doesn't do that, well how do you know they don't? Are you there for every vehicle they sell?
