Drill a big hole in the door. Rolls-Royce has been doing that for decades. Also, the OEM rolls royce umbrellas probably cost more than my tacoma

Give it a couple more years and California will be renamed "the great Mojave desert "
All our water will be used to water golf courses.

Be careful with potential projectiles! Long ago my father slid off the road and hit a tree, he had multiple passengers and had previously stored exhaust headers in the trunk of said vehicle after a day of turning wrenches. When the car hit the tree the headers flew forward hitting a back seat passenger in the back through the seat with enough force to break her back and paralyzed for life. Careful out there fam!

Why is everyone so obsessed with this projectile thing lol, I assure you it is tightly held down. The smaller the hair tie the tighter it is stored.

Because apparently some people spend an insane amount of time each and every waking second worrying about what “could” happen instead of just enjoying their lives in the moment, allowing life to simply happen. It’s madness.

I spent 10 years driving nuclear submarines all over the globe. Everything in that submarine (and I do mean everything!) was always stowed in lockers or strapped down with serious tie downs. Nothing was left to chance, there was too much at stake. Your setup is fine, but it does introduce a potential risk whether you choose to believe that or not.

If you trust that your daughter's fucking hair scrunchie to keep that umbrella locked down in the event of a serious accident, then go for it man! I am assuming you never spent any time in the military. If you did, you might understand where us dumbass boomers that are just trying to help you are coming from.

Yes. I have to agree with this and previous posts.

It may seem silly. How much harm could something as light as an umbrella do? But if you're going fast enough, it will do some damage. I've heard horror stories of everyday items like cell phones, soda cans, groceries, sporting equipment, and such breaking bones, fracturing skulls and worse. It's an inventive idea to be sure, but I wouldn't recommend this. You'd be intentionally placing a hazard right behind yours and your passengers' heads.

Not stirring any pot, but here's some physics:

An overly simplistic function for projectile "weight" in a crash is mass * speed.

So a 1lb umbrella in an accident while you're traveling at 60 MPH is now, approximately, a 60lb projectile.

Of course, there are many other factors that determine the projectile "weight", but that is well beyond the scope of the current discussion.

Turn your phone to landscape and you'll see it.

OP has the Marine Corps EGA under his name. I missed it at first too.

So should be familiar with the dangers of loose objects in vehicles then. Ammo cans, ruck sacks, MRE boxes get tied down. Similar concept. You hit something at highway speeds, that hair tie is not keeping that umbrella from smacking you in the back of the head at 60MPH or more.
