Had to make some changes. Swapped to a different toolbox and dropped in a Softopper. Getting ready for camping season when it cools off again.

I have narrowed down a couple of head units, with the anytime rear cam option, and am now looking at rear cameras. My 08 has no factory camera. The 12 has the dinky cam in the mirror which I hate. I like the look of the tailgate handle cameras but I found that to be useless sometimes, on my 3rd gen and 12, with a loaded bed and the tailgate down. Does anyone have any recommendations for license plate mounted cameras. On the subject of head units are there any tips to bypass the e-brake wire for anytime dvd viewing. Thanks for any responses.

I think it depends on certain units but I simply grounded the parking wire from the head unit and it bypassed that feature so you can play videos while driving. You can also purchase bypass modules for around 20 bucks on ebay or make your own.

Thanks. I thought I read that before. Prob going with kenwood. So just tying that wire to a black ground should work. Just looking to simplify the work. Not planning on watching videos while driving.

Tying that wire to ground does enable video playback, but if it's tied to ground when the unit powers on it won't work. That's the safety switch Kenwood put in to keep folks from doing exactly that. You have to tie the wire to ground through a switch so you can toggle the connection after the unit powers on (that's been my experience with 4 different Kenwood units).

I have no experience with kenwood lol but it sounds like he might be better off buying one of those bypasses and wiring it in line to the parking brake wire. I'm also wondering if adding just a fuse tap that comes on when the key is switched on or in accessory would do the trick.

Sounds like (1) tying as instructed to the e-brake or (2) getting one without a dvd player would be better options. Really have no use for the dvd. It is just on 2 of the ones I am looking at that plays cds. I have a ton of music on mini thumb drives but like the idea of having a cd player. Burning to thumb drives is a simple thing so will open my search to non cd units. Sure don't want to add another switch for a radio.

There's little dongles you can get on Amazon for various radios to wire in and fix that. It's a power, ground, and signal that goes to the ground on the radio. Pretty cheap, too. Uhh.. for off road use only of course ;)

Those modules are essentially a relay with a delay. Gives time for the unit to power up before completing the ground connection. I always preferred a simple switch to do the same thing.

I had the doors overlap the frame a little and now I wish I had made them flush. I am using some of that D seal on an inner lip and planning a bunch of silicone in gaps to keep water out. Thanks!

Yeah, that is what they are, but with them you don't have to flick a switch 4 times whenever you start your truck. Personal preference though

If I remember correctly that procedure doesn’t work on the 2.5 gens. Pretty sure it covers it in the thread. You can buy a scan tool and disable the chime or have a dealer do it which from the sounds of it is no longer an option since it’s a liability. I’m under the assumption it’s buy the scan tool or buy the plugs. Several people are selling them in the 3d printer thread for a couple bucks a piece.

Replaced both LCAs and tie rod ends. UCAs done within the past week. Now sitting in the second shop to get an alignment as the first said they couldn't do it because I leveled it when installing Bilstein 6112s.

Don't recommend tackling a diy LCA project if you live in the rust belt, unless you have the patience of a saint.

I think I'm just going to buy one of those seatbelt things that plugs into the existing one.

New tire day. My old K02's made it 63,000 miles. Went with 265 75 16 instead of the stock size this time.
