It's not price gouging. Inflation is real, your dollar is worth much less than 2 years ago, the truck isn't.

Ironic you say you are going to keep your truck forever but I can recall a couple of posts like this where you’re pondering selling it.

Anyways, you’re just going to get 100 different opinions here. Sit and think about what is best for you and your interest.

Every once in a while, a tempting offer comes along. I was strongly considering my truck before it got approved for a frame replacement, and the uncle selling this truck to buy a Maverick is the same guy who told me I should consider trading my truck for a Maverick; I was not really serious about buying a Maverick (Not a huge fan of Ford), but this Tacoma was initially a bit tempting...

Used prices are really high right now. $30K for a 2017? I'd hang on to your 2010 and wait a few years.

Is your current truck 2wd or 4x4? I certainly would not downgrade to 2wd for a newer body style. Especially if you get snow regularly.

Keep in mind that unless you strip it out of your current truck, you'll be losing your sound system as well.

$30k is a good deal in this current ridiculous market in my personal opinion. But that's subjective. Every dealer charges what they want nowadays.

I don't know how often you use your trucked, but at least you're not losing a foot of space if you go this route.

    Good luck either way!

I bought a car a number of years ago, and the previous owner was a smoker. It sounds weird, almost unbelievable, but I put a bowl of un-brewed coffee grounds under each front seat. Miraculously, the smoke smell was gone in just a couple days.

As always, take what you read on the innerwebs with a grain of salt, but it worked for me.

As far as purchasing, if it makes sense to you, get after it!

Nope, just people I know getting accused of not being handicapped and having the plate/placards.

Pretty sure mine was Mexico, I'd have to look. I'm certain that's where my new frame is from and I bet yours was too

I wouldn’t be purchasing a vehicle right now…but that’s just me. I have old vehicles though. Newest one is 2018.

Heh. I'm pulling a travel trailer cross-country with a few beeline days to get out west. Those hurried days would involve 4 or 5 recharging sessions for pulling a travel trailer with the electric Ford F-150. 6-7 hours of driving and 3.5 hours of recharging. :D

No thanks in 2022, it's all you.

But I agree that electric is the future. I look forward to the improvements over the next handful of years.

First thing you need to do is drive his truck; see if it feels like enough of a step up from your current ride to warrant the expense of getting into a payment for the newer truck. If you like it that much more than your current one, you have your answer. If you don't, then try and talk him down more, buy it, resell it for KBB, and make some money to put into your current one.

Steam clean the headliner (be careful not to dissolve the glue that holds it together) and run the AC cleaning agent then use Ozium or some other commercial grade smoke remover spray. Should remove 95% of that smoke if not all.

yea but this dude was also going for those old VW or suzuki mini flat bed trucks in the past. it seemed apparent years ago he wasnt really into tacomas, but more of a vehicle to get him to the trail head on pavement, like he said.

unless you really need the new one, id say wait. it sounds like its only a deal if you absolutely needed a vehicle. 4k more than he paid isn't really a deal, even if used prices are high. my dad sold his tundra to his sister for like 7k like 10 years ago. a 2010 tundra with like 100k miles or something, much much less than he paid and less than what he would have gotten in a private sale.

but really sounds like your current truck is doing great.

yea fomo is a thing, but theyre making new cars and upgrades all the time. theres always gonna be something newer and better out there

You know how much he paid for it do you? lol
You didn’t see a new 2019 TRD AC Sport for “high $25k” that’s for sure.
    Here’s the MSRP for 2017:
    https://www.iseecars.com/car/2017-toyota-tacoma-price

msrp for a 2017 TRD AC Sport 4x2 was $30940 + destination charges.

@PennSilverTaco you could just ask your uncle how much he paid for it used in 2019.

I agree that towing range is very limited especially if you plan on taking cross country trips. That’s about the only weakness, everything else it does better. Most people don’t go on cross country trips often if at all.

Oh yeah i know, just think Ford might have tapped into a potentially huge new market segment with this much cheaper smaller unibody truck. Most people don’t need the body on frame if they don’t do serious offroading / towing. If you do serious towing you probably already have a full size though, so really it’s just the serious off-roading that 90%+ of taco owners don’t do. I personally know two people selling their used Tacoma’s and buying brand new Maverick’s for nearly no money out of pocket at all, just like OP’s uncle is doing. This is an anecdotal recurring theme i have noticed.
