yea the mavericks and santa cruz are kinda theyre own thing. but arent they just bigger subbie bajas? maybe the market is different now, but i didnt think those got too popular

 

Your mechanic is wrong. That blackened connector is due to a high resistance between the male and female terminals which act as a heater. Not bad yet, but ...

Clean the terminals and you can either replace them as suggested above or you can give the male for the loose one a little twist to get more tension between it and the female terminal.

 

Been years but used to fish out of Murrell’s Inlet. And the seafood restaurants were so good!

 

If the hot wires were near that connector then as Jimmyh says it’s a high resistance at that connection.

 

I’d keep the truck you have now. Save all the money you can, and when you HAVE to buy a new truck. Get the one you want.

I’d say your current truck will last so long ,you will have money left over after buying a NEW truck.

 

The baja's could only tow half what a maverick can with tow package and cost $25k in 2004 (that's the equivalent of $40k today). The baja was more similar/akin to a el camino IMO. The price of the maverick at $20k today is making them extremely competitive, not to even mention the fact it's hybrid and gets 40 MPG....

The Ford Maverick literally costs less than a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla.

 

Lowest msrp for a base Maverick in my area shows $21,490 per Ford site.

 

My mistake, google shows $19,995 MSRP for base model, cheaper than Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. That's a 40 mpg TRUCK for less than the most basic of grocery getter sedans.

 

Still a good price in todays market if the dealer actually sells at msrp without a markup which I have no idea.

 

Yeah you have to research forums just like this that have dealer megathreads to get insight into what dealers in your area will actually sell at true price with no markup on the vehicle or options. They exist, just takes some searching to find.

 

I’d keep your truck. I wouldn’t blow 30k to get some convenience upgrades and a little extra space, the 2nd gens are still bulletproof af. At that point, I would just look out for a newer truck with 4x4.

Especially when your uncle is offering you a truck for more than he paid for it 3 years later…

 

I think $19,995 is correct but after destination charge its $21K.

 

What do I clean it with? That keyboard cleaner stuff? Don't want to cause even more damage. Also, I would prefer to just replace the entire harness, honestly; Would the whole dash have to come out to do that?

 

I know what he paid; $25K. I do not know if that included tax, tag, title, etc but my uncle paid cash for the truck. I have nowhere near the money that my uncle has and would have to finance.

 

He got a good deal! But that was back in the good deal days, 2019 is when I bought mine new.

 

Personal opinion is that I am opposed to debt that depreciates. Unless you’re unsure about the mechanical reliability of your truck in the near future do not put yourself almost $20k in debt with the way prices are right now. I bought my truck for less than 30k brand new off the lot, it may take some time but prices will come down and stabilize again once supply overcomes demand. You have a Tacoma so I would almost certainly say your truck will last till then reliably depending on your yearly mileage.

 

Unless you want out of your current truck or need something you don’t have, stick with your current one. I’m a 3rd gen’er and really like mine, but I didn’t have another Tacoma to trade from so it was a no brainer.

It’s a ‘fair deal’, but only if you were wanting to move to one.

As others have said, since you have a new frame, you’re golden for another 10 years and 100k+ miles.

 

Its called an educated guess based on observed prices at the time he purchased.

he said he bought it used in 2019 2 years old, 2wd in an area that most look for a 4x4 he would have been stupid to pay more than new on the lot for the same trim and build i saw.

 

Most people don't look for a 4x4 in Myrtle Beach...? Here in the Northeast though, I've never seen a 3rd Gen 2WD of a higher trim level than SR5...
