80% of what we (on our panel shop side) do is quoting. Probably only 10% of those actually give us the job.

Its fun when you get so deep into a coding project that you forget the rest of the world exists for a few hours.

    Why is my vision blurry...

I get like that on days when I have to photoshop hundreds of product shots and then rename them individually for our website's backend to be uploaded into the site.

It sounds mundane AF but those days tend to go by pretty quick once I get in the groove.

problem is I'll go 5+ hours before realizing I haven't stood up or hardly even shifted in my seat and then my body makes me pay

A good focus does make time fly.

Worst ones are when I pull up a leg onto the chair and sit on it without thinking about it, really makes standing up later fun.

Customers get sticker shock real bad along with impatience about our lead times. Doesnt help that ABB just did a BIG jump on their drives and PLC's. Toshiba too. That's if you can even get them.

Yeah we're doing the same thing. Parts are scarce and the prices for what you can get are gouged.

We've got a new product we're trying to launch that takes a pair of redundant processors. Normally, they're $25. The manufacturer, who had previously committed to a certain number/price/time backed out entirely, so we're stuck with getting them on the broker market, which is always a shitshow. One broker wanted $2500 each. Its only a $10k product, so there goes whatever margin we had, if we're lucky.

    And thats just one part.

What I hate the most is when you tell a customer you can have an item if they order right now.

But no, they wait a week then get upset when said item is gone and you hit em with the price increase.

Sometimes it feels like sales pressure tactic when you tell them they have to order now, but sometimes its a reality. I wonder if that is tripping them up.

Like when the TV ad tells me I can only get this great deal if I call within the next 30 seconds with a little timer ticking down at the bottom of the screen?

I've actually never tested it to see, but it sorta feels like a pressure tactic lol

I think our problem is that 90% of our customers arent the end user of the product. So they need approval from their customer before they order anything. That can take months to get written approval from them.

Exactly lol. The air conditioning people tried to sell me a hard start capacitor that way. Buy it right now and its only $150, tomorrow it'll be $300.

I ordered it mid conversation and installed it myself for $40

Oh yeah. I believe that. Red tape all the way down. Our industry is like that too.

    Especially the municipal orders.

    :annoyed:

Those guys will wait years to get the exact part they want even when something comparable is available now.
