I honestly wouldn't consider that bad for a MA car used heavily in the winter here. I'd just soak it with fluid film/woolwax every fall

Looks bad for Nevada, good for Minnesota.
FluidFilm or Cosmoline are your answer.
These things should be in the owner's manual...

the salt really melts frames, also washing doesn't help as much when there is exposed rust because the salt gets stuck in the rust, you need to use fluid film or some other oil based anti corrosion compound. this will stop the rust pretty permanently if you apply it once per year before winter, or once every 2 years with cosmoline.

there are several thread where people provide ways to remove and protect against rust. I chose crc others chose other products. Read through the threads and make a choice. If there is salt you need to do something. Good luck

Find your local NH Oil Undercoating service provider. Go there every September. It’ll be the best money you spend on the rig.

Very affordable, at least in my area (seacoast NH).

Bad advice. Rust proofing should be done in early spring. Because any brine water stuck inside the frame crevices will mix with humid warm air and corrode like crazy. I do my truck in April every year, rust is under control as of now. If you wait until end of summer, it’ll have corroded all summer long. That’s probably the worst thing you can do apart from doing nothing.

run it, keep another 4-5 years, then trade it or sell it for a new one. Living up here in the rust belt, I have learned not to keep a vehicle over 7-8 years as that is when the corrosion really begins to take its toll and the value drops off.

Your truck doesn't look like it's ever been rust proofed. That said, it looks very good for a north eastern truck. It all looks very light and superficial.
You did good cleaning it every week in winter.

Get her rustproofed before every winter and she'll serve you well for a very long time. The rust issues of 3rd gen frames are a little blown out of proportion on this forum, anyway (take it from me I live in eastern Canada where we have winter 8 months of the year).

Typical for these. Toyota has recalls on them. Last time I checked 17+ didn’t call for replacement but I’d be willing to bet that changes as they disintegrate. Por15 it then fluid film. I have the same on mine and being in the industry I would wire brush and paint my frame twice a year before I ever let someone change my frame

You can do that like i did with a tundra when it was 3 years old. After 19 years of fluid flim the frame was still good but a lot of rust. Fluid flim wash's off pretty easy here. Gotta make sure you do it well every fall. The cosmoline seems to be the ticket on a fresh chassis.

Been to quebec many times snowmobiling, at least they treat their roads with less corrosive materials over the longer winter months, than down here in southern new england. Those low end price cars use to be a throwaway after several years from the salt, and brime on the roads down here. There'd be nothing left underneath.

If you don't mind the rust like you stated in post #4, why are we reading this ? Drive the piss out of it, have fun with it. And dump it in the future. Its a tool meant to be used.

I have been been doing frame maintenance since I bought the the truck in 2012. I have tried many products some are better than others. The first thing you will need is preparation and patience when dealing with rust. I have a drill with a wire wheel attachment to grind the rust off and a hand held wire brush for those hard to reach areas. I then apply Ospho rust neutralizer over the areas 2 applications, Eastwood black primer 2 coats, 2 coats of Eastwood black chassis paint and 2 coats of Amsoil heavy duty metal protector. Then touch up the frame as necessary the trick is to build up layers over the year to the frame.

I would also use Eastwwod internal frame protector it has a wand that attaches to the can and can spray inside the frame in a 360 degree pattern great stuff. Some of those above comments I find are way off the mark. I also used an old garden hose and attached to the the Air conditioning drain out of the fire wall and rerouted outside the frame.

FYI in between coats let first application dry. When using Ospho rust neutilizer use PPE nitrile gloves, googles long sleeve shirt. I am in no way affiliated with Amsoil or Eastwood I just like their products. USN adage ( 7P) Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. GL

You should get it fluid film, wool wax, PB surface shield, etc a soon as you can. Then do it again pre winter. Get that first layer soaking in now, then the fall layer as the winter protection. Next year, I’d do it in the spring, then on every early fall and I bet you will be fine.

I few years ago I brought my 17 in to the dealership for the frame check, I was told to stop doing what ever I was doing, so my frame could start to go bad so they can replace it in the future.
