I have the 2wd stainless in the basket, still debating if the aluminum would suffice. I am also curious about the sticker placement. Do they go on the shield?

I’d only go stainless if it’s less flexy. My aluminum seems fine, but it wiggles a bit more than I would expect it to.

My stickers went to my kids.

Installed my MillerCat deterrent this weekend. It didn't take that long. Just need to gave patience with the front three fasteners.

    A couple notes.

Like others have stated make sure the front three holes have thru clearance. Mine didn't so I had to drill them out slightly.

I didn't drop my TRD skid and left the driver wing off to reach the front bolts. It's a bit awkward but seemed like an easier option. I didn't put my truck on jack stands so that might make it less awkward if you decide to do so.

After a few test drives it seems pretty stout even for aluminum. Catalytic converters have been getting stolen more often in my city from Toyotas so maybe this will make the scumbags think twice.

I just installed mine. I used vehicle ramps which made access easier. The front plate is by far the hardest part. I actually used chop sticks pushed through the outer holes to keep it in place until I could get the middle screw threaded. Once in I removed one chopstick and threaded the next screw and on.

What I want to know is why not have reverse nuts, or whatever they are called that are on the wings also on the small front plate but have them long enough to reach to be nearly flush with the plate? If this was done installation would have been under an hour.

I just installed mine yesterday… should I be hearing any rattle at all? I followed instructions exactly but hearing slight rattle noise if gone over uneven ground or some bumps

Edit.. it’s the Stainless Steel version Tacoma 2021 4x4

chopsticks was good idea. I screwed in two screws to line it up then used electrical tape to hold it in place and removed the screws. Then put the cat shield on and screwed in the front screws carefully. Didnt remove skid plate. Install was pretty simple.

I just installed my cat shield, aluminum, and had a bit of a rattle. Everything is nice and tight but there's just enough flex in the material that the wings will vibrate when the truck drives on anything rough. I was able to line the edge of the upper wings with mastic tape and that helped damp the vibration enough so I no longer hear it while driving.

Did you line the top of the wings, the part not bolted to the main shield?

Exactly, I think the extra weight and type of material was enough to quiet that down.

I was picking up some parts for my taco at the dealer yesterday and saw someone picking up an oem cat for their truck since it got stolen. I decided to look into this shield since it was pretty well known. Started reading this thread and put an order in but found out they are a local company to me. Did a shop pickup and installed it right away.

    Several takeaways:

    - I should have sprung for the stainless version since it appears to be more robust. The aluminum version I got is a little flexy.

    - after installation, I noticed if I pounded on the shield it would rattle near the rear brackets. I put some 3m vhb tape between the shield and where it meets the chassis to quiet this down.

    - the infamous 3 bolts on the front were slightly problematic lining up, but not terrible. I hand tightened all bolts, but the 3 bolts in the front seem to just snug up and any more tightening, the threads will strip.

Overall, I'm happy with the product and I hope it helps in deterring any thefts!

Thanks for sharing. Would you please point out where exactly you applied the 3M VHB tape?

I put them here. It was really obvious after installing that if I hit the shield with my fist, it would rattle here, no matter how much I tightened the cross members, I would get a rattle. I almost want to say this probably wouldn't happen with the stainless version because it is thicker and heavier, but no idea.

Unfortunately, I received mine Friday, and the smaller shield did not have the threaded nuts installed on it.

I did contact their support and they stated a batch of these went out. I was told they would ship me one but I have not received a tracking number or more information yet.

Thankfully I did not start tearing things apart and checked things out before I started.

    IMG_2364.jpg

Edit: The replacement shield arrived in good order. I suspect this was a costly error on their part having to ship out replacements.

@MillerCATCorp - Thanks for the quick ship and for making a quality product!

I ordered on Friday morning, was delivered on Saturday, was installed on Sunday. Great product, installed without any hassles. No rattles yet (driving around the block), but will need to get on the freeway first before final judgement. As suggested by other forum members, I installed the threaded plate loosely first before re-installing the cross members. Also, my OCD (and experience from writing technical instructions) had me label the parts in the instructions before going underneath the truck. I'll attach the image of the instruction parts labels (arrows) in case this helps someone.
