What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I recently installed the OEM lock and I'm very happy with it. You could put a piece or two of sound deadening inside when you're assembling it.

 

Good idea or maybe some spray sound deadening. I think it’s called lizard skin or something.

 

It's a crazy dangerous life, but a really good lifestyle.

Quite the wildlife encounters, huge pods of killer whales, gray and humpback whales, blue sharks, great whites. Yup, they come north, chasing the large salmon runs in summer.

Plus a lot of remote beachcombing. I have hiked boreal forest trails to pristine beaches, alone. If it is too stormy to fish, then we would find anchorage. I'd take the 8 ft plastic skiff down and row ashore and just go explore. Using the navigational charts to see where I could go. Done that countless times.

Best remote beaches are on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, no towns, no roads, only way in is by a very sturdy boat and expert navigational skills.

Endless sand beaches on the east side of Haida Gwaii, but not so remote as they can be accessed by car. West side of Haida Gwaii (commercial halibut fished there) is all cliffs and peaks, no beaches.

I miss it, but had to give it up due to a few serious physical injuries. Don't miss being caught out in life threatening storms or the conflicts with other boats. Those sometimes turned into fistfights in harbor.

That could get crazy. I have been involved in cases where boats rammed each other on the high seas. My father even fired a shot right into the wheelhouse of another boat in one of those cases. Lucky no one was hit.

Never a dull moment. Here is one of the beaches, this one near Kyuquot sound, west coast of Vancouver Island.

 

Wow. Beautiful area. I would love to explore the beaches and encountered the wildlife. Would also love chasing salmon. Just bought a large fillet today. Wouldn't enjoy the storms or conflict with others but I can understand how that would happen. I'm sure things get very territorial. Glad you survived it all and hope your injuries are not too bad.

 

It's what I started doing today, planned on being done...but it's all in the details. Before any of my complaints seem to be the thing here, I love this product. It's well made and I'm quite happy with it...BUT, there's a bit of devil hiding in those previously mentioned details.

So, you might notice the top of the surround is now WAVY (wish I had noticed that before I closed the hood and went..wait, that's not right). I'm sure loosening a few bolts and a little wiggle will sort it all out (but that means removal, carting back up to my condo, dorking around on my dining room table, then taking it back down to re-install...hence some of these little things add up a lot faster than if I was just in my own garage).
Second, the MTM connection..I have no idea how they were hoping that worked...it's 100% rigged right now. The sales/service person was quick to initially respond (after business hours I think, but not sure), but didn't have info to help me out without talking to some of the shop people. So, might as well learn this before taking it off again to sort out the waves in the surround.
Last, the wiring it came with made very little sense to me. There were connectors (+ and - of course), but they were both ring terminals (don't think I want this always connected to the battery). OK, maybe different perspectives here, but then the ring terminals are too small to put anywhere (I can't connect the ground to any existing ground bolt/screw under the hood).

So, I feel like this core product is great, and I'm going to be STOKED when I get through some of the little kinks here...but tonight, the kinks have won and I need a little break before round 2.

Oh, and if anybody has installed one of these, and knows how to resolve any of the issues I described, please PM me!

Sure the actuator on the OEM tailgate kit is a bit loud, but... I mean... are you guy's neighbors filing noise complaints or something???

Miso Mirror pods and switch installed today, not a bad install only took about 2hrs

 

Been sitting on my puddle pods for almost a year now. Gotta get off my ass with those and the v5 switchbacks...

 

I was just talking about how annoying that chain is.. lol

 

Even with a spare mine rattles like crazy!!!

 

Well, this was a blast of a trip, 3100 miles across British Columbia, and the Yukon. Towing a cargo trailer and Camped the whole trip with the doggos, Tacoma held up amazing minus the terrible gas milage, averaged about 7mpg for the trip. I did not set out locations beforehand and stayed where ever we could fit. Met some awesome people on the way including another Tacoma owner travling to Tok. The little taco that could did amazing. Now the trailer is dropped off I have to drive up north north for a few to see some friends before getting to work!

 

Swapped out JBA's for SPC's today.
