IMO, the general public get what they deserve if they don't vote. They choose to be sheep and complain instead of exercising their right to vote. If the ones that didnt vote voted for my dog in my riding then my dog would be representing Elgin County in Toronto.

The FIRST time I saw a gun in person, not carried by police, was at 25-years old and travelling in USA. It was terrifying.

I grew up in a high population city, and felt quite safe being blissfully ignorant assuming nobody had a gun, especially not one in every drawer/glove box/purse/pocket. Even IF all the gang members have guns, by avoiding gang activity I’m essentially outside of their radar. (Again, blissfully ignorant).

I feel much safer knowing that the person I had a fender bender with in a parking lot isn’t gonna pull a gun on me. I don’t think “if only I had a gun to protect myself (or shoot first)”...rather “I hope this mo-fo says sorry, and offers to repair my damaged fender.”

To me, guns do not equal safety. But legal gun owners (or just mentally stable gun owners) also do not equal un-safety.

Good luck America, but I disagree with the loosey goosey gun attitude. Free gun with every bottle of liquor. And throw into jail anybody smokin’ the herb. A crazy place, glad I haven’t watched American news in 3 years, that shit is depressing.

I’m not sure I follow and I’m by no means an expert on the constitution or constitutional law. My understanding is that we have the right to own firearms and use those firearms to protect ourselves and also form militias to overthrow anyone who threatens our free state.

Canada is similar to USA in many things, after all it's the 51st state. But unlike US, average Canadian does not think or care about future further than their own table. Ignorance is bliss. We have voting system in place to change Pepsi for Coke and vise versa and it's been like that and going to be for decades to come. Now if we look at our most southern neighbor, then things get fucked up. Cartels control more land than the government and equipped better than militia, that would worry me more.

Has anyone here worried about the state of the country, ran for any gov’ment positions?

    I bet not.

How about volunteering with kids who may not have many positive role models in their lives? Something like Big Brothers Big Sisters?

Many people complain. Most do absolutely nothing to change even the smallest actions within their own lives.
Change starts small. You wanna have an influence? Start with your own circle and community.
It’s very cool to see how into wrenching a kid could be when they’ve never done it before and you provide a helpful and supportive environment.

“Be the change you want to see in the world”

Alternatively, arm yourself to the teeth against all these invisible boogeypersons and complain on internet forums. About trucks.
    incase anyone doubts;

"North of the 49th" is more of a figure of speech as opposed to a specific geographical reference. You knew what I meant.

American news is not an accurate representation of the day to day lives for 99% of us. It’s hyper sensationalized garbage with ads. I can only speak for my experiences in my little corner of the country, but we don’t live like it’s the Wild West dueling in the street and what not. That being said I occasionally shoot from the porch in my underwear, but I’m out in the country haha

That’s a good point and why guns are not in the forefront of mine or really most peoples minds around here. They are more treated like tools honestly. I think it’s easy for some folks to think we just walk around ready to shoot for the slightest inconvenience or altercation, but it’s not like that at all in my world. We are mostly all polite. Maybe it’s because we all know we can shoot each other?

You keep using this word; enlighten me on how it’s a tool and how you would use it as such. What function does it serve? Instilling fear?

Maybe this might be why the general public should NOT have guns.

I see it as a tool to provide food and protection. It’s not about instilling fear. As far as protection it’s better not to show your hand in my opinion which is why I discreetly conceal carry.

Or they should be properly trained before being allowed to. Which I’m totally fine with. We have boaters safety but not gun safety? Have to take a test before being able to drive a car but not buy a gun? Teach people how to use and care for firearms properly.

I may have missed the part where you stated that you hunt, apologies. Firearms can most definitely be used as tools to provide food, I agree on that point. But those are usually long guns. You’re not taking down a buck with a Sig 229.
In reference to the ‘protection’ part; it’s a psychological thing?

Some folks will hunt or kill coyotes with ARs around here, but it’s not the norm. I think the best analogy is the fire extinguisher. I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I’m not constantly on the lookout for ways to use my pistol today, but unfortunately some people are and I want to be prepared to deal with it accordingly. I don’t believe someone should have to run and hide and hope the bad guys don’t shoot them. It would probably shock you how little space in my mind is occupied by guns on a daily basis. I don’t constantly think about where my saws are, but I know where to find them if I need them and I know how to use them.

The same justification can be used to remove,Alcohol, Motorcycles, Side by Sides, Dirt bikes, fast cars etc....

    You don't NEED those...
People get hurt and killed by them all the time,
you should have proper training before having one.
People do stupid things with them all the time,

In the right environment they may be a necessary "tool",
in other environments to some people they are a lot of fun.
In the wrong hands they are all dangerous weapons that don't need to be in society.

Should all these things be removed because they have been misused and some people are idiots?

Should Vans and Cars now be removed from civilian hands after idiots have driven them into crowds, drive drunk?

    It's the same logic.

    It's a slippery slope.

Never said anything remotely like that, just asked a simple question related to firearms, then admitted my own oversite.
    Classic strawman arguments though.
