Self defense and protection, when the police can't/won't get here in time. Same goes with other weapons you carry. I mean, I don't use my combat folder for cutting boxes...

I know it’s easy to lump us all in the redneck category. Being from Alabama believe me I’ve heard it before haha. We all come from different walks of life. My life experiences have led me to believe in having firearms for protection. I sleep very well knowing that I am able to defend my family from anyone who wishes to do them harm. I pray that no one ever has to be put in that situation, but some will and I hope the good guy wins.

Wasn't directed at you, was just a general soap box for a Friday. :) :anonymous:

Point in general was, as I get older I can't understand why with all this information now available and possible freedoms.

That we seem to be hiding more information and restricting what people can do.

Lets put firearms off to the side,
and use another local (In Ontario) view over time.

From another perspective. But seems to be the same process.

In North Burlington Ontario 40 years ago there was an abandoned open pit clay mine, and a few other areas near Snake road.
Dirt bikes, those killer 3 wheel Atv's, converted cars would all ride there.
Kids young as 4 or 5 riding 50cc bikes in some areas,
Professional level riders and Crazies going insane speeds and jumping on other areas.
Rarely did it ever make the local news about problems with people trespassing in other areas.
Or hear from other riders them doing it.
Couple times a summer you'd hear about broken collar bones, arms.
Over about 10 years, I heard of one broken spine from a bike accident, and 2 deaths (when a couple drunk guys hit each other head on at speed).
Maybe a couple stolen cars being torched in the back areas.
Some parent sued when their kid broke their arm or something small like that.
    Closed down.

Recently, again, was reading a local paper about the repeated problem that is only getting worse every year....
Of people trespassing on farm and private property, Hydro line fields etc...
With dirtbikes and side by sides, etc.
So now not only does by-law need more than just the dirtbikes to chase after them,
    They need more drones....
And more officers at XXX $$$.

Instead of having a place local to do something fun, that could be very safe with some education and training.
We'd rather spend more time and money demonizing it,
    Writing laws about Restricting it,
    And enforcing it.

We didn't learn our lesson from booze and drugs prohibitions.

Our government (no matter what party it is) is in the business of spending, not making money. Regular taxes aren't enough as it is and raising them would be suicide, so other alternative options are used like that. Just remember

    budget will balance itself

My versys 650 is hitting about 3.9-4.1- and it’s way faster than my truck, so I’m loving it. Insurance is 175 a month and I figure doing roughly 2k-4K a month on it im saving a couple bucks and having fun

    I blame Fox News!

Lol and most news media sources now. But fox news is more fun to point the hairy eyeball at.

Opinions and sensationalism with very narrow views on what they are reporting with bias out the wazoo.

Less emphasis on education and more on feel good participation awards.

Even our Canadian health leaders directly lied to the general population when Covid was first becoming "a thing"

Denying the airborn transmission vector, and that N95 equipment would significantly reduce the risk.

Justified because they were worried that there would be hoarding and panic buying and Emergency Staff may not have enough equipment..

Like holy crap, in the new wonderful information age.

Can google every nut and bolt on a Tacoma...

    But finding unbiased, correct information....

Is like picking flyshit from the pepper.

I have noticed something after travelling to many countries that is truly unique to Canadians...

A very large majority don't vote FOR a party,

They are voting AGAINST the other parties.

We don't really WANT to vote for these people, but we hate them less than the other guys.

People new to Canada that can vote, will give you the reasons why they are voting for someone.

If you REALLY REALLY want to see a big voter turnout...

    I mean record breaking.

    Have a;

Cast your vote for the politician you want to fire.
    Or
Fire them all and give us a whole new selection, check box option.

They will not have printed enough ballots.

    BTW Happy Friday.

I’mma just say it again; if you TRULY care about any of this; what changes have you made in YOUR life to reflect your believes and values? Have you considered running or taking a position in your municipal riding? Have you been to community meetings or helped with any local programs to help people get educated and vote? You know, help people understand and make informed choices within your community?

What’s louder in the streets? Your lambo exhaust, or your voice and actions?

I literally picked my son up on my bike to take him to the voting location. He felt intimidated at first about the whole process but now that he has gone once he should be able to continue to exercise his right to vote going forward. My daughter dragged her husband to an advanced poling station this time for the provincial election.

Nice. It all has to start somewhere.

Cry, amass firearms and ammo ‘for protection’, and soapbox all you want. Change comes YOU.

oh wait - the people who I’d be talking to and trying to help educate would probably be poorer then me! And maybe a minority. Or a new Canadian! Or a different religion! They might see my privilege and try to come back to rob me! I have no time for that!
*runs to gun store to get more guns and ammo* maybe after I do that I’ll post up on facebook and in a circle jerk echo chamber internet thread about it, where my peers of yes men will help fuel my paranoia of criminals and gov’ment boogeypersons.

    LMAO I’ll see myself out.

One could change a few words and make a similar argument against your beliefs though. The common thread between them would be the modern day soap box and the algorithms that tend to perpetuate only one side of things depending on what you or your pals click on.

Maybe we should look there for why social media/the internet helps foster radicalization on both sides whether it intends to or not. What fostered your stereotype of the average gun owner? What has fostered my stereotype of the average anti-gun individual? Rhetorical, but could deepen our understanding of views different than our own and make sure the ones we have are genuine to who we truly are.

Maybe if everyone watched a bit more Star Trek it would help. Gene Rodenberry was certainly on to something 60+ years ago.

Been a Youth volunteer and Camp Leader for special needs kids...
Had a career that almost cost me my life, twice,
    cost me two marriages,
killed most of the friends I worked with,
and not to mention still leaves me waking up in the middle of the night screaming and shaking on occasion.
All to further the interests and biases of our country.
Then to watch the people that sacrificed for what they believe in,
because that is what we are told,
and think is the right viewpoint,
    break under that stress,
when their eyes opened up to reality.
Then be tossed to the curb and be demonized.

Been the support group leader for the people that had not adjusted (or even did adjust),
until the last ones had either died from previous conditions they got at work,
    or they committed suicide.

Sponsored people to come to Canada from real crappy areas.
One was a family, that the father died helping us.
I paid for his daughters school out of my own pocket.
His and our country, did not keep their word. But I did.

Donate most of my pension income, to Veterans Programs,
and to the Charity that sends kids with Cancer to summer camp. (brainfart on the name of it)
And if I added it all up over the years... could have purchased another Lambo.

We do co-op programs for high school kids,
we also take some of their more challenging students with the hope of showing them a better path by example,
and to show them they have other options. As well as do a summer student program.

Unfortunately most my actions, and those of a lot of others, gets silenced and buried under NDA's and government mandates.

One thing I learned was that people don't really want the truth, they only want confirmation that their own personal agendas is justified.

And I've given up on shaking my fist at the clouds.

I thought about politics, but I know my own limitations.
And I'm too discouraged and tired to keep fighting. I'm no Nelson Mandela.

Besides, I'm too ugly to be on a sign on everyones lawn. Think of the children!

Would someone please get this soap box outa my sight! Geez I'm rambling like an old guy playing checkers in the park.

Get off that lawn you kids
