So someone removed your CC or even did a valve cover job and didn’t put your cables back correctly but it needs a closer look by someone. I agree that it does look misaligned somewhat also. Almost like the assembly is pushed slightly too far towards the cab away from the front of the truck. Is the assembly itself where the cables attach loose? I’d grab that and see if you can detect any play.

FWIW my 02 2.4L auto doesn't maintain speed on inclines very well either, nor does it kick down unless I pretty much stomp the pedal to the floor. My kickdown cable is adjusted correctly, I've just always assumed the transmission is not very responsive. If I'm going up a hill i'll just manually shift down a gear.

Got any more pics of the engine bay? Maybe one that focuses on the passenger side fender area and one that shows the entire bay, fender to fender.

I agree with the rest of the guys .
Those steel cables used for transmission line pressure have a tendency to stretch over the years .
When the cable stretches , you get soft mushy shifts and little to no kickdown unless you completely mash the gas pedal through the floor mats . If you dont keep up with micro adjustments to the cable , your transmission begins slipping .
Many people overlook this micro adjustment .

The tighter you adjust the cable - causes later shifting and with harder shift feel
The looser you adjust the cable - causes early shifting and softer shifting to the point the transmission will slip .

Bottom of first post , there is a pdf file showing you how to properly adjust the cable

Looks like the CC cable was disconnected- probably just a by-product of the CAI installation. If it's still intact should be as simple as just reattaching the cable to the tb.

Elsewhere in the engine bay- It's time to flush your brake fluid. It's not supposed to be that color. And I'd give your battery attachment an inspection. It looks like it's loose enough that the battery has twisted in it's tray. If it's loose enough to allow the hold down to touch a terminal you're going to have a bad day.

I had the OEM battery tie down come loose once and started to intermittently make contact with the terminals while I was bouncing around on a trail. Every time the entire truck would die for a second then start back up again. Got lucky that was all that happened. I had a battery size at the time that didn't fit well with the OE tie down though.

you will need the bracket that holds the CC cable as well, the two blank screw holes above the butterfly spring (purple line at the right side)

With a bit of luck, that bracket might still be on the end of the cable... The bolts on the other hand, almost certainly are not.

Well I was luckier than I thought! The line was hanging there with the bracket attached. I found two bolts that fit perfectly laying around the garage. I now have CC … Thank you so much!

So I adjusted both throttle cables and although the truck is more responsive than before , kicks a little hard when shifting into 2nd but still not kicking down during a uphill grade. Gonna have the Tranny flush as directed done asap and see if that makes a difference.
