So what are your thoughts on your jeep? I’ve owned some. The newer ones turn me off with the over elelabroate interior and lack luster drive train

Ok, I’ll start. I had a 1987 wrangler (with the “last of its breed” placard on the dash) and was glad it was the last because the mechanical clutch linkage wouldn’t engage the clutch when articulated and the 4 speed transmission would go above 55. And the transfer case sat on a rubber pad on the crossmember we that allowed the drivetrain to flex the drive shaft out of the transmission

Now, I did have a 1992 Cherokee that I loved to pieces but it didn’t like being alive. The transmission ate third gear constantly and every time it bumped something the body caved in under pressure. But I liked the 4.0. It’s not a competitive motor anymore but it lived down low and was forgiving.
My brother had a 2000 Cherokee that Shannon and I abused and it was a little more refined but the body was so out of shape after we ran it through the woods a couple times that the unibody started to tear.

I will never understand why people love that 4.0 so much. It had a lot of ridiculous issues that were never solved.

It was too heavy for the power output and running your exhaust ports next to intake ports is dumb, but it was really user friendly

Overall it wasn't a horrible motor. Until it started eating exhaust manifolds. Or the valve cover started leaking and never stopping no matter what was done.

Originally back in zero six, I was looking at a new burnt orange LJ. ending up not buying it because it had come out of the gulf region where the floods had happened. didn't want to take any chances for later down the road issues. still think I shoulda bought it.

Did not like the change in body style at all. The JK came out in 08, and mine is a 14. Took me years to finally like it. The body has held up pretty great. The interior is ok and held up as well. Over all not bad. Yeah, there is plastic but what vehicle doesn't have it. Drivetrain has been fine too other than the slight rattle in the manual trans. I've only had one warranty issue where the oil pressure switch maxed out. pressure was fine and would show 99psi. and throw the check engine light. I know I said awhile back, that the xfer case had a noise issue. that has gone away on it's own. Still wanna pull it and give it a go through.

I bought the Sport S.. Didn't need the Rubi, and wanted just above the base model. Don't get me wrong.. Yeah, it's a jeep, whoo hoo, but I've been happy with it. Still doesn't draw a smile to my face like my LR did, but close enough.

Most likely have not answered you question at all. but it functions and works.

I was raised on the motto “you can’t out jeep a jeep”. The platform is what makes it the “ar” of the car world. It has so much going for it but Chrystler has tried to turn it into a crossover, instead of a dirt tool.

So you're saying it's great at the range, but shitty in combat?

Agreed. And is only getting worse as we move forward. The same can be said for our Military vehicles. The old mechanical tech that worked, fell to the computer controlled stuff we have today.

    Getting waaay off track now.

We have 4cyl that produce 600hp and get 24 mpg because of computers but if we are building the rest of the car out of tinfoil and making it a disposable product it’s meaningless.

Rite rite. A disposal product that costs a crap load. Lastability (longevity) of todays vehicles are no where like they used to be. Thinking out loud.. you are already upside down when you buy. I could also be dumb as a bag of hammers, too.

The old M1009 CUCV blazer (early 80's) got 24mpg. and that was a naturally aspirated diesel. had no ass at all but worked.

One reason not to buy new, the title leaving the dealer usually costs you a grand to 1500. I was talking to my salesman yesterday and he said a few years from now when the trade in cycle comes around a lot of people are be butt hurt when they don't get back what they are paying today for the inflated prices. Good time to sell, bad time to buy.

If I were going to spend too much money on one, it would be the two door.

@HoboDave deserves recognition for this banger of a joke!

After the birth of their 9th child, a redneck couple decided they'd had enough because they couldn’t afford a larger bed. The husband went to the veterinarian and asked to be snipped. "Me'n my cousin don't want no more kids"

The vet told him he could get a vasectomy, but it was expensive. "There is a cheaper option," said the vet. "Go home, find yourself a cherry bomb, light it up and put it in a Coors Lite can, then hold the can up to your ear and count to 10."

“I ain't no rocket surgeon," said the redneck, "but how's that gonna help me?"

    “Trust me” said the vet.

So the redneck went home, drained a beer then stuffed a lit cherry bomb in the empty can. He brought it up to his ear and began to count:

    “1… 2… 3… 4… 5…”

Once he got to five, he stopped for a second, put the can between his legs, and resumed the count on his other hand.
