As the mystery of my Taco comes up, I have a set of ditch lights that have the LED ring around them.

Here is the challenge the cheap controller is damaged and not water resistant any longer. Is there a better way to do this or is this the best option out there? See photos below:

I don't recognize that controller, but you might be able to cut the controller out and direct wire everything. Without having hands on with a meter I couldn't tell you what's what, but it appears that the rings and center portions are wired separately - it might be as simple as twisting them together and running direct to the switch, though you would lose whatever options the controller is providing.

I can find the wire that goes to the ditch lights, and when the fuse is pulled the go completely out. I do have a cheap controller that does adjust the main lights and the LEDs around the outside of the light.
Here is a photo of the inside

Looks like an obnoxious junction box with a buss bar for ground and 12v+

Thanks, do you know of any options to go smaller (less obnoxious) and retain the function of dim, color shift and strobe? My 11yo daughter is not letting them go away:rofl:

Who wired that? While I was working on fixing the box I would clip out that cable installer's bird's nest - cut to length wiring is more than just looks - it's easier to manage and troubleshoot. :cookiemonster:

Controller sounds like a specialty part. That's a job for someone who knows how to clean and troubleshoot a circuit board. Looks like there's one hidden behind that lid gasket. Before ripping into that I would triple check the wiring and the switch, and make sure that the problem isn't actually something as simple as an upstream short. Or, I hate to say it, it might be time for new ditch lights.

Thanks, everything is working, just goes a bit wonky when it gets wet. Think it is the cracking on the sealer. See my other post and to the "who" as this truck is new to me.

Just looking for a more streamlined way wire it up, I will be removing the birds nest of wire in that process. Already removed 50 feet of some very sketchy LED bed lighting (went for the Matt Gecko option). There was a USB and power port in the bed that was direct wired to the battery with tape and a crazy amount of very loose zip ties.

Ah. I see where you're coming from.

I'd clean it and then put a bead of liquid gasket around the terminals and box rim. That should solve the water issue.

Ok permission from the 11yo design consultant has been secured(ice cream and pizza party for her and 8 friends payoff accepted), I am approved to remove the old lights and along with the mess of wiring.

Suggestions on what to replace these with?
