Dang. My crawlspace wouldve been a lake if it werent for the sump pump. Now that the downspouts are buried the pump never runs.

It's weird hearing about basements, they don't exist here. I can't say I've ever seen a single family home here with a basement, usually on a slab.

    4 run, 2 don't
Across the street, and 3-4 houses over.

Far enough for me to not have called the cops or set my dogs off in a barking frenzy.

Though it's fair to say property values have plummeted :bananadead:

My basement is a good 5 and 1/2 ft below ground level and it's never moist down there. House doesn't even have provisions for a drain in the basement or a place to put a sump pump. The ground here is really hard so it all tends to just run down grade to the road when we get crazy rains.

Must be nice. Ive gotta sister on probably 7 new joists due to water damage/humidity down there. Still not done outside either, need to regrade the back so water doesn't run toward the house.

The further northeast you go even crawlspaces don't exist. All basements. I enjoy the crawlspace, makes remodels easy as far as plumbing goes. I can pretty much put a shitter in the dining room easy enough if I pleased.

Same with a basement. My next little project will be putting in a duct right next to the chimney since there's a void going through the floors that way I can toss my laundry down it and have it end up next to the washing machine in the basement.

    Perfect for Taco Tuesday

I wouldn’t mind a basement or crawl space. It really makes running stuff easier like you said. Instead you have to go through the attic.

Thats gotta be the most bachelor thing Ive ever heard someone wanting to do to a house.

Ive yet to acquire a washer/dryer for my new laundry room. Moms place is close enough to go up there on weekends.

It's a convenience feature really. Why take the laundry down two flights of stairs when you could toss it right down the center of the house and have it right next to the washing machine. The spot where I'm going to put the penetration is already in linen alcove so it'll look nice too

Anything related to plumbing on a slab is a pain in the ass that needs a concrete saw to deal with. All my electric is in the attic, easy enough but hotter than hell up there. HVAC is in the crawlspace too.

Id like to get a set of propane logs for the fireplace before winter. I can set the tank out back and run the pipe under the house easy peasy being that my fireplace is in the center of the house.

That's a really eastern thing. Air handlers in crawlspaces isn't a thing here and super rare in attics, they're usually in garages

They make an airhandler/heat pump/condenser all in one unit that sits outside. I wish I had one, as it makes servicing it way easier. Theyre huge but so worth it imo. If I live here long enough to have to replace my system thats probably what Ill go with.

Oh yeah, package units, those are good if your house is setup for them, kinda hard to service actually cause they're compact, but at least you can get to it freely.
