I think MESO said not to use the factory ground because they sometimes have feedback issues. There is a factory ground point behind the seatbelt in the drivers C-Pillar which is where I ran my ground to.

I built my own interface as I don’t like how the anytime backup camera is wired. Plus I wanted to use the steering wheel controls to change cameras. But there are other off the shelf options you can use.

It wouldn’t be on the back side of the clip. It would be between the clip and the body, so it gets compressed between the body/clip by the bolt. This should give you a better visual picture…

That factory ground is actually ON the factory connector. That reference is for those who do that, not that the clip-nut ground is bad. Choices. FWIW, I used the factory harness connector as is with no ill results… on a KC5. I’m going to open it up for the first time since it was installed this weekend, just for a look see.

Thanks so much. So slipped under the clip making contact with the body in the back side. Then to be compressed when the bolt goes through both the clip and the grounding ring and finally tightened with the nut.

I’ll draw up a diagram for you for reference when I get back home, but for now, here’s reference shots of the cameras.
Here is default front view when you turn it on:

Here is swapped to OEM rear camera:

    Then clicking on this switch:

I can get it swapped to this view: Yes, it is crooked, I never got that sealed in place.

I’ve actually got a Stinger off-road head unit installed that has 4 camera slots….right now I’m just using the oem back up camera which on this unit with its 10” screen is awesome…
What I really need is camera and mounting options… I originally thought the shark fin antenna was good spot but the third brake like sounds nice as well.
I’m thinking that vantage point would offer a great view of my boat and or kayak trailer…

If the head unit you have allows for other camera slots, then yeah, you can add it wherever. The 3rd brake light spot is good because you can turn on the other lights for more visibility if you need. From what you can see in my photo, I can see almost the entire trunk, and some space behind it. Not perfect, but it would help.

Not sure if it's related but I've been having a hard time locking my truck via the driver door handle, I can't say for certain but I honestly think this issue only started AFTER my 3rd brake light got installed  :notsure:

Other than that, love how the BD 4 light setup looks lol

Same issue, but I know it’s definitely not from that. Started happening after I added remote start/cellular management. Some of it can also be related to the battery in your remote. Change that first…

I disagree. The BD lights interference with door lock is well known, there are tons of posts about it, and a few different fixes. (doesn’t seem to be one fix that works for everyone though).

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of, the battery was dying. Changed it out and still the same.

Good to know you know your issue didn't start with the 3rd brake light install

I'll have to go through the thread to see what the different types of fixes are

I know one of the fixes is to connect the lights to a separate ground and not the one that is from the original 3rd brake light.

Running a new negative wire is one, running new power (direct from battery through a relay) is another.

BTW an easy test to see if it is the BD lights is to simply turn them off on the switch by the steering wheel, or wait until they go out and then try to lock it.

    You’re right, I’ve heard that about BD5.
