Why don't people like the push button start?

The crack window on the Tesla was explain, the window somehow got lower, creating a weak point. Easy to break a window when it is down a bit. Vs tuck in?

In 5-10 years every company will have electric drives I live off the grid, useless for me.

Standard shift. Lots of Pros and Cons. I learn to drive on a manual. A few delivery companies I work for we all had to drive standards.
But I like simple to use automatic’s. Driving a fast car with a manual , lot more fun.

Push button is simple , this is why I like it. The more power features the better! And more things to go wrong too.

 

If a car thief wants your vehicle badly enough and has enough time, they will get it regardless of whether its a key or pushbutton start.

 

I don't want an electric truck.

 

So why not make it easier for them with push button start, right?

Keep your fobs in a faraday bag and you defeat the most popular theft method. Small price to pay for the convenience, but that's just my opinion.

 

Same with me. I thought I wouldn’t like it before buying the truck but it’s been reliable and kind of neat. My work vehicle is a 2019 Jeep Cherokee which also has push button start (My Tacoma is a 2019). I wonder if this is the future for automatic transmission vehicles. I originally wanted to buy a MT just to have a key but had to compromise with my wife.

 

I don't care if its auto or manual or key start or push start. As long as it's reliable and gets me from point a to point b I'm good.

I love manual transmissions and my Tacoma will be my sixth vehicle to have one. My wife still can't drive one, oh well that's not my problem.


Nice that the manual also comes with a key, in such a complex world I like to keep things I can control simple.

Push to start looks cheap. The button always looks out of place, like evey manufacture just threw it on the dash last minute in a random spot.

There should be two seperat buttons. One on the right to start the vehicle, and one on the left to stop the vehicle.

 

If I said that to my wife a push button start or MT vs AT would be the least of my worries.

 

i absolutely despise push button starts. hate that i cant just lean in and start truck without pushing brake. hate that the fob has to be laying around. simply dont like that act of pushing a button when turning a key "feels" much better. i dont need keyless entry because i never take my keys out or lock my doors anyways.

 

Do you seriously have issue pushing the same button to start / stop the engine? How would two separate buttons change anything; you still have to push a button.

 

Don't mind push to start. What irks me the most are power adjustable seats.

 

I've been using a key for so long that push button starts feel alien to me. Not saying there's anything wrong with them and if I had one I'm sure I'd get used to it eventually.

 

Good thing lock picks, pry bars, screwdrivers, and videos on YT showing how to bypass immobilizers don't exist yet.

The level of tech to steal a keyed ignition is a lot lower, and quicker, then a push button.

Point is, once you are no longer near or in your vehicle, it can be stolen by anyone regardless of ignition type. Just like any other piece of technology out there. Once it's no longer in your hands, then the amount of security put around it is meaningless.

The majority of vehicle theft is the result of 1. Unauthorized use, where a known or unknown individual has access to both the keys and vehicle. 2. Armed or Strong armed robery of the vehicle while in the driver's possession.

 

The button will last longer.

 

I like the key for a few reasons
1 I'm 48 years old. All my life of driving and being around cars there were keys. I had a rental Nissan Altima one time when my old jeep was in the body shop for minor collision repairs and I couldn't get used to it. Part of it was that enterprise puts both fobs on a wire you can't take apart and doesn't really fit in your pocket well. I was always getting in and looking for where to stick it in to start it then where to put the bundle of fobs while I drove. Usually a cup holder.
2 is the theft thing. High technology thieves can nick your vehicle if your not careful to turn it off or used a Faraday pouch. We all get comfortable and less vigilant at times with stuff like that.

3 the connection to the machine seems closer. I even at times miss the days when I had a manual transmission. If it had time and money to have a play toy car I'd go get an old manual Mazda Miata to wrench on and drive around.
