Why don't people like the push button start?

I like the push to start but it did take some getting used to. I seem to misplace the fob more than I ever misplaced a key for some reason...could be dementia though...

 

Why don’t people like manual crank handle starts? What’s with all this key turning bullshit? Change sucks

 

Clutch start cancel. Period.

Push button start is a marketing gimmick that took off… now everyone has it…

itis as clunky as the new (very dumb) marketing ploy of the push button handbrake.

it reduces functionality to the point of rendering it useless… except for parking.

most won’t care. They will love the useless gimmick

 

mixed feelings on the push button start. my brz has it, and now the tacoma. brz is a manual, and if/when i get overconfident at stoplights and stall, it's really irritating to go through the 'turn off, turn on, get the car to notice the motor stopped, finally restart' modes where a key i could simply just bump again. still thinking about adding a button starter to the car...

the truck, the pushbutton i find a little irritating because i'm a lefty. so my keys normally end up on my left side, either off a belt loop or in my pocket. which makes the system less sensitive to detecting the key. i also don't like the 'press brake to start' operation, makes it harder to start the truck to pre-heat/cool it while i'm loading up for the day, i end up having to climb all the way in to start it both for the brake pedal activation and so it can detect the key.

but i do like not having to take my keys off me to use either vehicle.


my 1 requirement that got me into this mess was factory heated seats. i know enough about fabric to know i never, ever want to deal with hog rings! if either vehicle could've came with heated seats, manual locks, key ignition, and crank windows, it'd be nearly perfect.

 

you can turn the fob off so this doesnt happen. i wouldnt recommend leaving your keys with your car either way.

 

how is it clunky? not once has my vehicle failed to start when i push the button, past three vehicles have been push start and not a single instance of clunkyness with any of them. seems like the opposite of clunky to me. clunky is fumbling around with your keys, trying to get them in the slot.

Push button start is the one thing I really don't like about my truck.

 

Find yourself a 2015 base model regular cab. Crank windows, manual door locks, 2.7l with a 5 speed MT.

 

When I go to start it I like it to start!could care less about using a key or a button.

 

I can see pros and cons to each, my truck has a key since it’s manual. However, the key in the Tacoma sucks. It’s so low that my knee is always hitting it or the other keys dangling. I actually took all my other keys off but then I put an AirTag on it and the AirTag hits my knee. However I have actually even hit the real key with my knee and shut the truck off before.

I have adjusted the power seat countless different ways and between it, reaching the steering wheel, and being able to operate the clutch, there is no way for me to adjust it to avoid this. Sucks. I am 5’10 with a 31” leg so not like I’m some oddly and uniquely shapen creature.

so for me I’d much rather have the button in this one.

 

I leave my fob in my gym bag that sits in the back seat and never once has it not detected the fob. Also, you can hold down the start button and it'll start without hitting the brake.

A few of us understand.

 

Push button start is one of the newest change , a noticeable change. We are creatures of habits.
Changes do effect your daily routine. I believe this is one reason. Why many will not accept the push button. Many do not want a change.

Pressing the brakes before you start is a safety feature that save many lives.

Old days of a manual, How many of us started the truck in gear! And forgot to press the cutch?
A video few months ago, mechanic in front of the car, ask the young worker to start the car, he did not know how to drive a standard car. Left in gear , start the car and killed the mechanic.

I really like the convenience, no need to insert a key. No need for a key to lock the doors, just press the driver side handle to lock. I even like the idea you can talk to your radio to change stations.

Changes ? I am glad we have cell phones. Phone booths are no longing everywhere.
Push to start? It will become the norm.

 

I just picked up my Army Green Trail Edition, and was lucky to find it available, so bought it sight unseen, like everybody these days.
Did not know what kind of key it had, never thought about it, but remember being pleasantly surprised it was a manual key.
Mary has a Prius, kids have Mazdas and Hyundais, and they all have push button.
I have driven the Prius and find the push button annoying for some reason I can't describe.
I also like the feeling of turning the key.
On my other old truck, you need to turn the key to on position and wait for the fuel pump to finish spooling up, 2 seconds maybe, and then start the engine.
I like that.
I like having complete control.

 

Old habits are hard to change.
No one remembers entering a business , you needed to open the door by hand,(actually need to turn the handle to get in.). I mean the big box stores.

I think we all like the “automatic doors)

There are a few people who automatically open manual doors for others.

 

Interesting comments , many are saying they don’t like the “push start button” because they want a complete control.

The Push start owners have a complete control over there truck. Now sure why other think we do not have complete control.

The biggest difference between a key start vs a push button start? One takes more effort. more movements, more thinking. more work to start. Lol

Not sure if any one remembers the microwave with timer dials, you had to turn the timers, today just push buttons. Was a change

 

The main reason I like the push to start model is that it allows me to have that bad ass looking red MESO button on the dash.

 

Give me keys or give me death.

Truth is these push-button everythings have been around for a long long time.
Anyone remember push-button [ Drive ] [ Reverse ] ?...

I don't like many of the 'electric' features of newer models but know pretty soon 'electric' will be the whole experience of driving.

I'm probably not going to like the idea of being electrocuted by my car but sure that possibility is coming so I'll start hating on that already.
