I think a lot of us can relate, I used to do a lot more woodworking when I had less tools, I spend more time moving things out of the way!

Yea, once dad gave me his old pickup the woodworking got taken over by all the truck parts. Not counting the "honey do" list haha. Hopefully once the truck is done and parked outside the woodworking will resume. I also started building a new assembly table.

If anyone is on Instagram I post all my stuff here @missionpeakwoodworks

Looks just like mine. Now, where did I put that tape measure? I had it just a second ago, and I haven't moved more than 10 feet...

Found a Stanley Bailey Type 11 from 1910-1918 #8 jointer plane today. All parts in good working order, original rosewood totes, corrugated bottom, clean unchipped blade, chip breaker, and lever cap. 160 cash.

I will sharpen, and clean it up as soon as I can. It is just Aurick and Me today. He is digging on monster truck finals on youtube, but that wont last long enough to flatten the blade, and set the primary and secondary bevels. I bought it to use, but there is a cleaned and tuned one that wasn't nicer to start with for almost 600 on ebay.

Here is a good place if you ever see a Stanley Bailey plane to know what type and year series it is. https://woodandshop.com/identify-stanley-hand-plane-age-type-study/

I show the man that had it all the way thru the process so we both knew what I was buying and he was selling. He had 100 in it, and just resells tools at the flea market. I told him I am a buyer on Bailey and Bedrock by Stanley, and to be on the lookout for old quality rabbit planes, and scrapers.

These things leave a finish that is slicker than sandpaper ever can.

I love old planes, I have the #45 and #55, though pretty much only use the 45, really nice if you need to make a small bead or something.

Are there many here that are into hand planes? I don’t consider myself a collector though I’ve definitely picked some up through the years that I just had to have. Just curious for the people that have hand planes if they are more for collecting or for using?

I have just recently started buying them to use.
I originally bought a harbor freight plane, never could make it work right, so I just stopped. I needed a block plane for a job, so I bought a new bailey and it was ok.
I bought a new woodriver 62 low angle jack plane and fell in love with how well it worked.
Studied more on them, got a old no. 3 bailey and no. 4 wards master (rebadged stanley for Montgomery Wards) and a 5 1/2 wood river new, and now a no. 8 jointer.

    Planeing wood is actually fun.

Hand planes are very satisfying to use especially when tuned correctly. I remember years ago when I first started using them and getting frustrated with them as well!

This is a book that has really helped through the years and I highly recommend it to anyone getting into planes
