Did 3 nights in Big Bear, night one dispersed camping (first time!) with a group of others and then 2 nights solo at PineKnot campground near Snow Summit Mtn Bike park. A day of offroading, a day at bike park, a day hiking the summit from the base. Then headed home.

A few days of camping feels like I've been gone for a few weeks.

Tested out the new 6112/5160/Icon RXT Option 2 setup for the first time as well. Performed well!

In weather that Kelty is probably ideal, but I would be displeased with the lack of view out of it. Definitely lots of coverage.

Yeah I’ve got the Roam on now and it’s definitely a less coverage. Biggest concern is what’s going to happen when the sun is at low angles or I find myself in non-vertical rain. Maybe I can rig up a wall or 2 on this one somehow.

The plus side is I can actually stand under all of what it does cover. And it’s way easier to deploy.

Got away for one night at an awesome local gem I found on hipcamp. Went with my friend who brought two kayaks on his kei truck (we were going a steady 60 the entire way there since that's the fastest his truck can go ). Was able to get set up just in time for the sunset before whipping up dinner. Woke up early for the sunrise and continued with the good-eating trend for breakfast. Solid < 24hr.

Had a different plan, but got a flat tire the day before I was going to do some of the BDR, so without a spare I had to re-think things. Decided to just find a nice camp spot (as best I could making sure I stayed on low risk roads). Ended up at Chubb Park Ranch (kind of between Fairplay and Buena Vista) after running across a guy that almost had his F250 stuck (it was some slick mud for sure).
Either way, found a nice spot (other than the area is busy with ATV traffic), enjoyed a pretty perfect camp evening, and came home early so I have more time to get the flat fixed before...next weekend? Hope so!
Anyway, here are some pics after the rambling on about it:

Often enough I’ll be traveling through National Forest roads looking for spots to camp, similar to a lot of the posts above, and I didn’t need 4x4 to get there. It’s always a burn to the ego when you made it up a mountain side to a “remote” location in the National Forest only to be staring down a Prius or Civic… Trust me when I say that 4x4 isn’t needed to get outdoors! If you are in Houston as your avatar shows, then go explore Sam Houston or Davy Crockett National Forests. I’m sure there are some spots around Houston to go explore or camp out at for a night. The hardest part for me is finding the time to get out there.

You can send it pretty hard with just RWD. Also, public land is all around you. Just Google around.
