I will say the Magnuson made a difference from stock. But to tell the truth if I had the choice to purchase a second one I would have passed. I would have done just gears, a header & a few bolt ons or pay to have a GM power plant installed. (Above my skills & abilities) But with the addition of the Haltech made the same or maybe better difference. The different Dyno charts didn’t show that but trust me my BUTT Dyno says completely different! The original tuner (Dyno Comp) did a baseline run of 150 HP then after 73 Dyno runs they showed a Dyno run close to 240 HP. But it had a bad flat spot at about 3k RPM’s. After the Haltech I will say the tune made a difference worth getting. I paid for the Magnuson at a fair discount but they haven’t given me a bill for the Haltech yet… I still really like an aluminum 5.3L w/ Tremec to be completely honest. It’s hard to argue with 350 HP stock on regular pump gas and close to 28 mpg.

That sounds like an awesome improvement. The added torque is really where these trucks need it most. Sounds like yours is running like a champ. Glad to hear you're able to enjoy it again and thanks for the feedback on the haltech. I've pretty much decided i'll go this route unless HPtuners decides to support the 2TR (which i doubt will ever happen). I agree with you, it's hard to argue the GM powerplant performance. Just a matter of getting one crammed in there! I still think you should go this route if it's what you really want for the truck

If you build your engine, @BassAckwards, then OEM ecu won't have enough cell data to handle the tuning for the power your truck will make.

Very good point indeed. Sounds like oem ecu is off the table then if I go that route. Although I am not sure I want to build the damaged motor after the trouble that head gave me. I’m washing my hands of that whole deal I think

Haltech Elite 1500 and Boomslang harness ordered this morning. With the current setup, I ran out of adjustment with the AFR calibrator on the MAPECU3 and it is causing the truck to spike lean into the low 13s when the boost hits around 10psi. It started out doing the same thing but in the 15 afr range, so i was able to get a couple more ratios out of it, but i'm not happy with it. This has been happening at half throttle/3500 rpms, according to my data logs and the OEM ecu is fighting me still, so it is time to upgrade before i risk damaging this engine too

Sorry for the stupid question “Boomslang harness”
I was never told who made the plug & play harness I just know Gabe said they don’t have one for the 12 thru 15. I think that’s one reason I let the guy talk me out of our 15… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Here is a link
    https://www.boomslang.com/haltech-elite.php#!/

You are correct, looks like it's for 05-12 only. The 13-15 trucks had different connectors at the factory ECU i believe.

Hmmm… I just got off the phone with my vendor and they told me they are selling everything and Gabe @ SNP Speed Innovations / http://www.snpspeed.com/ is selling everything but he will ask for the fuel pump used, injectors and etc… He then loads a base tune.

I remember when snp and lce were selling a 2tr pnp harness for a short time before pulling the product. I wonder if that was boomslang or their own because they said it had problems.

i did check their website before ordering, but didnt see anything listed for the 2tr. I also knew that 05Taco4x4 is running a Haltech 1500 on a boomslang harness, so that's the route i went ultimately. Still may end up having Gabe tune it if i cant find someone else. Not sure exactly what i'm going to do on that front yet.

This is the first i've heard of the problems, but i remember there being an offering at one point on LCE's website for the SNP harness & haltech. Hopefully it wasnt the boomslang unit.

Hmmm… Gabe told me I needed a Windows 7 or newer system / laptop for remote tuning, we have Apple. He wants to check everything after I get a few more miles on the system. He said nothing to worry about I just like to check up. I now need to find a cheap Windows something. You computer guru’s recommended something, I don’t know crap about this stuff…
Oh, Robert I was able to take the Haltech and face it to the outside in the lower right kick panel (there’s an opening in the sheet metal) move some wires, trim some plastic and fit the Haltech out of sight behind the kick panel. I’m going to drive around for a while then pull the panel off to see if anything is rubbing where it shouldn’t.
Haven’t been driving much because premium is over $6 per gallon here.
Damn oil companies are gouging us. They don’t want to produce more gas so they can make more profit. My neighbor was all up on Bitcoin I told him he better buy oil…

IMO an electronic boost controller should do the trick! Even a manual one would be better tbh. My $0.07 (adjusted for inflation)

Back when I needed a windows laptop for this type of thing, I just went to Best Buy and got a laptop with windows 10 that was pretty basic. It has worked great for what I use it for which is really minimal. It has 1tb of storage and 4gb of ram. The next one I buy will have 8gb of ram.

That sounds like a great place to install it out of sight. Do you have any pics of that by chance?

It sure seems so, but what can you do.. I paid 5.10 today for Shell which isn’t too bad I guess compared to where you’re at. That’s brutal!

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve got some reading to do now. Although if I can get a safe tune, I do love the torque in the mid range when it spikes up like that for a brief moment. I might just leave it be once that is sorted

As I yell at my wife, “Meg we are moving to Texas‼️“

Hell the cheap $hit here is over $6. Go to Mojave Valley S. of Bull Head on the Cali. border it’s .75 cents less.
A friend of mine owns a business that recycles Antifreeze. They boil the used antifreeze and the glycol separates them he adds all new chemicals for the different varieties of antifreeze. Anyway he drove me over to Lake Havasu it’s part of the route to deliver to his customers. I picked up my truck then helped him on his route. Driving from Lake Havasu to Mojave Valley you cross into Needles Cali. over the river. Gas prices in Needles was $7.93 for cash Reg. Pay with plastic and it was more!

Edit; Oh, sorry Robert I will remove the kick panel an send you a photo or two. I totally forgot as I was on and off the phone with Gabe, LCE and calling lawyers to help with an issue.
I’m guessing since my truck is the most basic, your truck may have more wiring behind the right side panel. I just used a small pneumatic sawzall to rip right through the white plastic to make room for the Haltech.

Replaced the last bit of silicone from the URD kit today. Got this from intakehoses.com. It’s about twice as thick as the stuff provided by URD. Speaking of which, I will have most of a URD sc kit up for sale soon if anyone is interested. I am still using the MAPECU3, driver side charge pipe, and intercooler, but everything else is there. And actually the MAPECU3 and jumper harness will be removed soon too if all goes as planned. FB731ED0-9295-4C74-8FA9-4801C7843305.jpg

Started this morning removing the 1” aluminum blocks. I wasn’t happy with how high it sat out back, so back to just the 1.5” aal. Also took the wheels off the back and cleaned up and painted the drums black yesterday.
    E7342A11-8C92-442D-AB86-D95807F04247.jpg

Here’s what I’ve got currently. Rotrex c-30-94 with about 35k miles, URD sc bracket & mounting hardware, two belts, stage one and two sc pullies/idlers, quart of sx-150, filter recently changed, hayden oil cooler, Rotrex oil reservoir, silicone couplers, bypass valve, and passenger side charge pipe.20496905-85B6-408D-B350-A1AC0F7461C4.jpg

Thanks amigo! I used just regular rustoleum semi gloss black for it, so we’ll see how it holds up to the heat. Had to clean them up quite a bit as they were rusty

Being that your turbo has a BOV, you could put that charge tube in the box as well. Just make your own charge tube.

As that charge tube has the provision for the 5th injector, which will no longer be needed in the near future. Which would make for a more complete kit to pass along.
