Not sure if youre being funny or serious but seriously I do agree I really can't knock the quality of marlin products. I think that what they actually put out is high quality stuff and I don't actually have any concerns about it breaking. I really just like the design of the NWF box better because it uses the factory flange to seal and toyota gears, and I have the donor cases I need sitting in the garage to build one taking up space. I figured I might as well make them useful and build myself an ecocrawler so I can pass along the marlin case to someone who can get more use out of the 4.7s.

Part of the reason I like the ecobox is that it'll be built from mostly toyota parts, and I think that is a benefit long term versus needing to source replacement gears or bearings from the marlins and trail gears that may or may not be there if I do have an issue.

 

Doubt you'll ever run into bearing being obsolete. It's a common part number that many manufacture, its not specific to MC only.

Personally, I like the idea of being slow and in control. Others I know with the 2.28x2.57 or 2.28x2.28 have stall on gnarly climb and scared them sh1tless. I am 99% sure the 2.57x2.57 will stall on vertical climb too.

 

I’m auto and I’m running 4.7 and 2.28. Lots of people say that’s too much. But honestly after doing some challenging wheeling with my boxes the first time, I loved it. Such a good pace and felt so controlled especially on off camber drop offs. Very happy with my decision.

 

Very true. Going up on a climb is one thing but going down on a steep drop, well that's another.

 

I'm auto and had 2.23x2.57 and changed to 4.7x2.57 and would not go back to a 2.23 setup.

 

Is 75-90 ok for the CB, or 80-90?

 

75-90 is okay, 80-90 is better. I run 85-140 same as diffs for the crawl box, normal 75-90 in the chain tcase.

Adding on to my BAMF skids to cover the crawlboxes.
Went with 3/8".
What do you think?
Local metal shop did it from my drawing and the cross brace.
I'm finishing it up now.

Yep. I have bent my 1/4" skids though. So it's warranted if your gonna get after it.

 

It'll just bend that crossmember instead.
