haven't heard that word in a long time. My buddies and I back in 1974 used to walk down to the corner store and buy a box of fiddle-faddle popcorn and 2 cans of lipton iced tea. Walk out of the store, sit down on the curb and go to town. Great way to satisfy the "Munchies" back in the day. So imagine 3 guys sitting on the curbs scarfing down popcorn and guzzling ice tea fast as we can. We used to get some good stares from other patrons sitting in their cars. Ask me if we cared, until one time we looked up and the 2 cops were staring at us.

I had heard of those shows might have seen them a few times at the baby sitters if my nose was not in a book.

Then running a phone line upstairs saved many falls going down the stairs running for the phone in the kitchen.

I think we were tougher in those days.

Then the pain might have just been stored to till now 50 years later.

I eventually bought the DVD set of the whole series. From black & white beginnings to color episodes.

Like the Col said, "lots of famous people in this series". It has been a kick to see such big name (later in life) stars in bit parts on this show. Names like Lee Marvin, Robert Duval, Leonard Nimoy, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, etc. Geez, the list goes on! I bet that later they were proud to have been part of Combat!. They should have been anyway!

Unfortunately, I only got to originally see enough of the show to hook me. I lost access to TV in 1964 (went overseas). Was only b&w then, but still couldn't get enough of it. A Great and very realistic production! (Especially compared to crap like Hogan's Heroes, Gomer Pyle USMC, etc.)

Twelve O'clock High was another authentic one. The movie version was written by my dad's Squadron Commander, Col. Bernie Lay; and included many events of my dad's squadron and his missions in WW2.
Definitely some poetic license came into play, and in fact Col Lay actually combined events from the 3 sqdns he flew with to make the one story line. But a big majority of the movie story is what actually happened in my dad's squadron; the 487th BS, 3rd BG, 8th AAF.
Dad & Lay (& others) got shot down on the mission (11May44) that is the heart of the movie. Lay went down in France (& evaded to finally meet up w/ the USA at Normandy). Dad got his heavily damaged B-24 back across the channel to the coast of England. Lost the aircraft there but saved his whole crew. ...Only to be later shot down in a B-17 over Germany and was captured. He & his nose gunner were the only survivors that time (25Aug44). An 88mm took his wing off over Rechlin.

I didn’t have one like this, but my Gma and mom did. I remember them making coffee in it. My mom gave me one when I moved out. I screwed up the coffee every damn time in that thing!

“Let hertz put you in the driver’s seat today! “

Happy people fly down from the sky,and land in the front seat of a new convertible, already going 60.
