I'm a night owl. I like being up till the wee hours of the morning, but nowadays nothing is 24/7 anymore, so you can't get jack done.

I never have been a night owl, in bed by 10 most nights. I'm an early riser though.

We dont have 2nd shift supervision so they have it pretty easy. I like being in the action too much. I hear ya on the steward politicing, must be like that everywhere.

I was the steward, and I was fighting and fighting to try to get things fixed for our guys on the floor and they were all "You have to pick your battles!" and "HR said they were working on it!"

That's one thing I like about working here, the boss is in the office and there's me and Brian out here in the shop. That's it.

Brian and I get referred to as "shop foreman" when we have to go to a job with the boss:rofl:

We had an older guy named Bunk who worked here many years ago, we all went to a tool show and Bunk took a piece of duct tape and wrote "burr boy" on it and put it on his shirt and walked around all day with it

I wish. This place is corporate so we got too many chiefs and not enough indians. I wish we had a foreman on the union side. I'd take that spot in a heartbeat if I could.

So we have a 1st and 2nd shift steward and I work with a guy on 1st who was a steward years ago and was voted out before layoffs in 2011 so an old head could hang on in the slim times. The former steward was a pusher and a real ballbuster and he was one of the last guys called back in 2018. Solid worker, just always pushed back. Now that hes back when it all goes to hell he just says hey whatever!

It doesn't always pay to push back, even when its costing you money.

I only worked one job where we had to go in nights, 4 10s, 5pm-3:30 am. Only good thing about it is most of the bosses went home at 5, other than that the company sucked, our supervisors sucked, and the contractor sucked. On the brighter side, that job is what inspired me to quit construction and I’ve never looked back.

Wasn't costing me anything except time and headache. My first year here I had a great steward. Always had answers and always pushed back when he could. My committeeman seemed upright back then too. Once the great flu rolled around he turned into a liar, or his lies became easier to see through, not sure which, then he got Okey-doked into the Business rep position he said he'd never take. Now he drops grievances because "I don't think we'll win". When the company is literally taking our jobs and giving them to engineers and letting people get fired over misworded policies.
The most he says these days are "You let me know if anyone on the floor is talking shit, I'll go toe-toe with anyone out here".

All my life I have slept better during the day. That drove my poor Mom crazy at times.

I enjoyed night shift 2300 to 0700 so many times we could only work at night

When your away from home it never bothered me what time I went to work I just got up had coffee and started.

    6 or 7 days a week 10or 12 hours a shift.

I remember those days in coal country auto parts , industrial suppliers used to be open 24/7

Third shift would hit the bar after work

I've had much more labor intensive jobs that paid much less than $47.00 hr I make now. Plus ok benefits health insurance. 401k match $2.00 for every dollar I put in up to 5% then 1:1 up to max allowed.
More my attitude because when I passed on going to a different employer 2 years in here, I stayed because it looked like opportunities for advancement. Put in for promotion no less than 6 times, even lateral moves 2x and no chance. Supervision wage is $10.00 a hour more minimum.
For all that have gotten those jobs, all but a couple....couldn't do much, put nicely.
