Cowl intake FTW. I avoid water when I can anyways, so the cowl intake makes sense. I basically treat it like a stock intake when it comes to water fordability but relocated it due to ditching the inner plastic fender liners.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I hadn't thought about the fender liners, but mine are pretty hacked up with the bumper install. I do need to address that as well because things like headlight wires and such are more exposed. I ordered some recycled billboard sign vinyl, might be a good use for it.

The only DAI (desert air intake) is the one toyota provides from the factory. I have a safari snorkel and it would work as such

I also remember the last you were at big levels/ bald mountain and your truck hood did go under water for a ways.

But I also think that's the wettest trail in the area

Totally random question. We are at Dulles. Drove my wife’s 2010 highlander. We are at the gate but can’t remember if we shut the sun roof. I took a picture of the location marker so I could find the car upon my return. Yea can barely see the roof, but does anyone know if when the sunroof is open on that car some type of metal wind deflector pops up beyond the roofline? Or is it completely flat?

On my wife's 2013 Rav4, a metal deflector popped up. I know that doesn't really apply, but it might be across all models

I don't remember the hood being underwater, but you're probably right since I would have a different sightline from the cockpit than you. I do remember it being deep and leaving some pucker marks on the seat.

That's honestly why I've never been back to that trail. It's not particularly difficult in any sense but there's a high risk of fucking up your truck in those puddles. I went once and that was enough for me.

Pretty low water levels here. I think you had gone first, then John, then me

Usually on any vehicle i have drove with sunroof, there is some sort of deflection thing that pops up. Plastic, metal, mesh, etc. Not sure if thats across the board though.

When we went it hadn't rained in about two weeks. I still had water on the hood from a wave off Tiffany's jeep. Even then, I know I was almost top of the tire deep when I got stuck for a minute.

Ha! I had a Marine and his wife in front of me, so you know we were going to do it the hard way from the start.

It was at least to the top of your rear bumper from my POV.

When I hit one of those puddles, i had water come over my trucks hood.

But again, i also dont have fender liners.

There was a dude on this very thread back in the day that actually lost his truck up there due to hydrolock if i remember correctly
