What is the best setup for replacing the TRD Sport coil springs and shocks?

The Drivers side coil spring broke on my 2012 TRD Sport. Looking over the forums many are putting the 2" lift kits on them and using other than the OEM Bilstein's and springs. over the years I have found that many of the after market kits don't hold up or don't fit right.
I have toyed with just getting the OEM springs and shock kits but have not found what the OEM part numbers are or the best place to get them.
    Any ideas?

Would you be ok with a small lift?
If so, you might find 3rd Gen low mile take offs for cheap.
Bolt in and ready to go.

I replaced my oem shocks with 5100’s around 70k. I kept my original coils and set the shocks on the 3rd perch for 1.75” of lift. Anything higher than the second perch is going to require getting an aal setup or an aftermarket leaf pack if you use the bed. 5100’s are a cheap “decent” setup. Price point reflects overall quality. I currently have them on my current 13 and on my previous 06 tundra. The ones on the taco are holding but tired approaching 30k. The ones on the tundra died. Blew a seal on the front passenger side with less than 7500k and then Snapped the eyelet from the body on the front drivers side around 12k.

If looking for lift I would suggest looking at a 3rd gen takeoff set. People practically give these things away. You can get a new set of oem coils and shocks with very little mileage on them for less than you could by the 5100’s alone and they are already assembled. These will provide roughly an inch of lift up front which is slightly more than the second perch of the 5100’s.

What’s you location? If local to eastern wa/n. Idaho and you are only after coils I have a set of 2011 Trd OR coils you can have for free. Bought them off a low mileage truck because the owner bought new high dollar assemblies. Decided to keep my sport coils instead due to the higher spring rate. They’ve been collecting dust for a couple years because nobody lives out here in bfe.

Thanks, I'm in New England (East Coast)
I want a good quality set and really don't want used. I have 130k on the truck and like the way the OEM suspension feels. I do not want to make any modifications however if a good lift kit is a plug & play setup then I would consider that. There are so many different sets out there and have no clue what is what.
    Thanks for the response.

I second the 3rd gen OFF ROAD take offs, you can find "new" used ones...look on FB marketplace or the "for sale" on here. I swapped mine over to them, and it rides great. Did lift the nose about an inch, levelling out the truck, and like I said, rides great, just like stock.

3rd gen take off vote again. 'Used' at a couple months and couple thousand miles is nothing to fret over.

I'd be more concerned why your spring broke. Do you live in salt country? If yes, be sure the frame is healthy before starting any work.

Aren't there are 3 types of 3rd gen takeoffs to consider, though? the black ones, the billsteins and the foxes.

If you’re looking I’d get the billsteins from either of the Trd models (sport or off-road). Sports have higher spring rates meaning stiffer coils. Idk about 3rd gens but 2nd gen sports (12-15) came stock with the upgraded 3+1 leaf packs. The offroads did not. Something to consider/research if looking at take off leafs too.

Likely hood of you finding dealer take off or very low mileage pro suspension probably isn’t going to happen. Replacing the pro suspension out of the gate Kind of defeats the main selling point of the pro. The upgraded suspension.

3rd gen take-offs is exactly what I did on my 05. Only a couple hundred miles on them for couple hundred dollars got rear shocks as well. Lifted the front about 1”.

@sprucemica yep, but the ones you WANT are the TRD OFF ROAD ones, yellow and blue shocks, not the blue or black ones...

The 3rd gens are not the same as the 2nd’s as in sharing the same Billy’s between Trd models and only changing the coils? I was under the impression both sports and off-road continued to share the same shocks and the coils were different. Same as the 2nd gens.
So essentially there would be 4 different coil over assemblies between 5 different models?
    Base/Sr5: assuming this is black
    Off-road: yellow/blue
    Sport: blue
    Pro: fox

    Seems silly on Toyotas part.

Edit: After thought I guess it’s not that different than the 2nd gens to have a number of assemblies. There has to be at least 4 different assemblies across 2nd gens so it seems logical to believe the same would be true for the 3rds. I guess the difference is having model specific shocks were as the 2nd gens shared them across models.

I just did this to my 06 PreRunner. New take-off 3rd gen Off-Road UCAs, front shocks w/coils, and rear shocks. All like new and only cost $400. Got everything off the buy/sell here on the forums. I bought new OEM lower control arms (McGeorge Toyota) and got AutoZone sway bar end links and tie rod ends. My rear leafs were replaced last year under recall when I took it in to have the clock spring replaced, also under recall. I have about $1100 in it and just need an alignment to be finished with basically all new steering and suspension. The third gen front shocks and springs raised my truck about 3/4 - 1 inch over where it was. Me and a friend did everything over two Saturday mornings. It feels great and I am very pleased. 329FC762-E730-446F-8C89-5E5F1975A25A.jpg7FFEE193-A1E1-48C1-A009-6DBAEC6B460A.jpg

I know I’m kinda late to the party but what I would recommend is ….. if you haven’t had your frame replaced yet under the frame extended warranty by Toyota ( If I remember correctly it’s in effect for 12 years from date of purchase ) if your frame fails they’ll replace it for free and most dealerships , if you supply the shocks , will put them on for free ( they have to put the old ones back on anyway ) I’d recommend a low mileage set of 3rd generation “off road” take offs , I just did this with my 2010 trd sport and I couldn’t be happier, rides like a brand new truck .
