Well somehow I am the only unsatisfied customer with the KDMAX Tune. I got it last week in San Antonio for my 2017 TRD Off Road and it immediately shot my gas mileage down to the dirt. On my way to San Antonio to get the tune I got 15.5mpg, on the way back home after the tune I got 11.8mpg. It was against the wind on the way back but I’m still noticing worse gas mileage after driving around my home town than I’m used to. I don’t have any mods on my truck besides a 4” lift and 33” tires and a remote start.

I got the tune to help with gas mileage mainly. I heard this tune helps gear hunting specifically with highway speeds and helps maintain 6th gear easier. I’m having the opposite results. It’s idling way too high. At 45mph I’m sitting at 2000rpm when I am usually chillin at 1200rpm. Same with 65mph, my rpm’s are stirring way higher than I’m used to stock. I’ve attached a couple photos to show what I’m talking about. This is driving at constant speed on a straight flat road.

My tuner is being a huge help and he’s just as confused as I am. He is communicating with me along the way and trying to help in every way he can to get my truck preforming properly. I let him test drive it to see what he thinks and he is under the impression that it is my truck that’s the problem and he’s been very helpful suggesting everything he can think of to help get my truck back in tip top shape. Hopefully we can get this figured out because I was very excited for this KDMAX tune based on all the reviews I’ve read.

I’m just really confused how I’m getting different results than everyone else D8FC6261-CF26-42AD-84BE-00F2DB047F05.jpgD748352F-48E7-4C32-920E-605E477304C0.jpg

I’m having a brain fart. I haven’t updated since KDMAX 6.0. Just bought the KDMAX-Pro+XT files from Paparee. I updated VFTuner. And selected the calibration file I wanted (.vfc) and hit the calibrate ecm button. Is that it? Do I need to do the calibrate tcm button?

I did two tunes yesterday and both left happy! I’m working on new videos but Rumbles not playing nice today.

One customer in Hattiesburg, MS was averaging 17.5-18 MPG in his 2016 auto prior to tune and reported 21.1 on the 45-50 mile trip home. That’s a 3 MPG gain, but probably not an accurate representation at this early stage. I’ll check back in after a couple weeks and get his #’s. On my truck I’m averaging right at 21 a tank now. About a 1 to 1.5 MPG gain since tuned with XT.

I'm liking what I'm seeing as far as gas mileage is concerned. I'd say that's because there's less downshifting into 4th gear, along with hunting period. I'm also liking what I'm hearing about how the trucks have been doing in both cruise control settings.
I'm looking forward to getting mine updated.

I just made a trip from SLC to BOISE...and wow! I was able to cruise a lot better and somehow, I got 19.6mph for the first 85 miles, then I pulled over to clean up a mess from the car sick cat....and got 17.5mpg for the next 150miles...then when I gassed up and finished the trip, I got 16.2mpg. This was while fully loaded with my cat, dog, RTT and camping gear. Normally I see 10.2-11.5 mpg on this trip...empty. I did drive a tad slower...and must have had a headwind..because that mileage for me anyways..is unreal lol. I was pretty happy!! On the latest tune.

    Damn! That is great.
I am glad to hear all these good mileage reviews, especially when the gas prices keep rising!
Mine is steady at 17mpg in the city and up to 20mpg when I get on the highway at 70-75mph.
I don't think I can ask for my truck to do more than that, especially with the power it has.

I'm also getting the same thing. I was averaging 18-19 before the tune. Now I get no more than 16. My daily routes consist of 60-70 mph speed zones. It seems to stay around 18 if driven below 55, but starts to immediately decrease at anything above. Otherwise, I'm certainly happy with the performance.

Hey @ANTupLIFE, I think I tuned you on the 11th with Pro+XT Normal throttle. I have see my MPGs drop sometimes during a tune update but by the 3rd tank of gas I am always seeing it resolve....that's my expectation at this point with your experience and that it is not poor mileage forevermore.

I am hoping you are on the second tank of fuel now and it's settling in after 300-400 miles post tune. I would not expect a hit of -2 or -3 on MPG. Some related questions:
    1) how many likes logged since tune?
    2) are in your normal driving mode or pushing the truck a bit to test the tune now?
    3) same octane as pre-tune?
    4) any changes to truck from a build standpoint?

Let me know your thoughts here for direct msg and we'll figure it out. 60-65 is the sweet spot but pushing 70+ makes our bricks certainly kill MPG but again we are trying to compare all things being equal EXCEPT the tune as you have stated.

I wanted to give a shout out to Dutchcontractor who tuned my 2020 TRD PRO Monday with the latest KDMAX tune. This is the way this truck should have came from the factory, WOW, it drives so much better now, way better. I'm 1 tank of gas so far. Thank you Dutchcontractor!
