I'm looking for suggestions for some heavier duty rear shocks for my 2013 2nd gen, 4 door Tacoma. I have a heavy fiberglass cap, and often carry 2-3 kayaks. Also load it down with vacation gear.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks all,
    Mike

A beefier leafsping setup is what you want to handle heavier loads.

How many miles on your suspension? Any idea what your weight range is? If not, I suggest you have it weighed. Otherwise we’re only guessing what you might need.

If you're looking to carry heavier loads you need heavier duty leaf springs, not shocks.

This. If you run constant weight you'll be better off increasing the carrying capacity with a leaf upgrade, then possibly shock to help control that leaf upgrade depending on how aggressive you go.

That said, an add-a-leaf or a 3rd gen 4-leaf pack (if you have the 3-leaf 2nd gen pack) paired with a Bilstein 4600 or 5100 shock setup might be what you're looking for.

IMG-1831.jpg Now does this count as 2 or 3 leaf springs? And where can I get another leaf?

That's the 3-leaf pack. The 3-leaf pack is an underperformer. Swapping to the factory 4-leaf pack should be a nice upgrade for you without adding harshness. I'm in Phoenix and would be happy to let my factory leaves go pretty cheap (800 miles on them), but no idea where you are and they're pricey to ship. With that much rust, I'd guess nowhere near the desert lol. You'll also need new u-bolts and possibly brackets.

Looks like the shocks have already been swapped out - perhaps they are softer than you need with all that extra weight.

Hey mike. Like people stated you need a beefier leaf pack. I would suggest getting on your local Craigslist or Facebook market place and seeing what is out there. Lots of people are selling 3rd gen tacoma leaf packs for pretty cheap. Sometimes you will even find a upgraded leaf pack. I had 3.
1st 3gen leaf pack with icon add a leaf $200
2nd ome new style medium leaf pack $400
3rd ome used ome heavy leaf pack $400

    look around in your area

also look for 3rd gen tacoma trd bilstein shocks. They usally can be had for like $100, like new condition. That will help you a bit to control your leaf packs

Looks like you haven't done the leaf spring recall. You will get a free 4 leaf spring. I would say do that with an add a leaf.

Yeah I'll tack on to be #3 that those leafs are toast. Also shocks do not carry weight, springs do. Again, those are clearly toast and flat. If it was recalled, I would check to see if you still qualify to at least get a new set of factory springs before opening your wallet. Then maybe open your wallet and sell said new springs.
