You have quite the patience. When people ask broad questions with no prior research it drives me crazy

    Yeah.
    Yes.

Kidding. I first had a Thule, then a Kuat, now a 1up. I like them in that order as well, each is a bit better than the previous.

Adding Buffalo Creek in Pine to this list - I got a kick out of it. Dang I love Colorado, really need to start sending out resumes again.

Got a full review from a good buddy that rode Palisade Plunge recently. He said it's a more grueling ride than the Whole Enchilada and there's an 18 mile stretch with no access in/out other than single track. If you have an accident or need help, the only way out is on foot/bike or by air. He also described it as long stretches of mellow XC trail with very technical areas in between (harder than anything on Whole Enchilada). It sounds like it's very much not for beginner or intermediate riders and you should be an expert biker as well as confident in your backcountry skills.

I very much want to give it a go this fall!

Just curious if anyone’s familiar with mountain bikes here when it comes to used prices. Thinking of buying my first bike just want to make sure I’m getting a good deal. He said the lowest he’d take is $2,750 and it’s got no known issues.

Bike looks clean, but it’s seen some shit. I would make sure the frame is free of any cracks because it’s been through at least one bad crash.

Some of the teeth in the cassette look a little tore up too. I don’t know if they recommended to replace the cassette or not, but I could see that in your near future.

seems like a reasonable price. similar build to my 2019 and that was like 4.3k new.

the scratches are whatever, its an alloy bike. i dont see anything on the stanchions, but just couldnt be pictured.

im always a little weary when people dont post all bike specs for a bike in that price range though. like what model fork, shock, and dropper? probably what came with it, just kind of an over sight or lack of detail?

cant tell how the suspension feels through a picture, but should feel smooth if you try it out.

Are you implying it might be stolen?

I agree that typically you mention everything and if you are a bike guy you would want to post pictures of the frame and stanchions, especially because the front gets chewed up by rocks and crashes.

Okay thanks! He said it’s fully stock besides the pedals. Pointed out some of the stuff y’all said and he agreed to dropping the price down to 2k even so I feel like if I do need to fix anything shouldn’t be into it that much.

    its always a possibility.

theres some web page people put their stolen serial numbers in. could be valuable to check that too. serial numbers are normally on the bottom of the bike between the pedals (on the bottom bracket)

E53E8B89-80FE-4186-8FB0-2EE64B7D2527.jpg It’s hard to say, but the stanchions are gouged in this image, I have seen worse damage where the fork seems to work fine, but you would typically have to file this down so it doesn’t scratch your seals.

it’s really hard to tell from this blurry ass picture that looks like it was taken 10 feet away.

You think I’d be better off moving to the next bike? I’m comfortable with being in that 3k or under range all in for my first bike. Since he’s okay with 2k cash for it including some riding gear. If I do buy it I’ll just take it to a local shop and let them do whatever to it to get it back in good shape.

oof yea that doesnt make it easy. a new CSU (crown steer unit i think) can be hard to find. they are normally like 300-400 and you gotta know the right offset. and replacing it isn't a beginner task either. you can use a send hit repair kit, ive done this on my stanchions, and it works. this route is a lower barrier of skill sets.

the bike has potential, probably just really clapped and trying to sell to someone that doesn't know better

    Yeah.
What others have said, but if he's willing to take $2K, that's a lot lower than the $2750 being the lowest he would go and not a bad deal. I've only bought one used bike, but I've sold many in much better shape than that one. My rule when pricing is to expect to get 60% of new MSRP for something in very good shape, hope to get more (I usually pay 10-15% under MSRP for new). That would go down to 40% for something older or in "OK" shape. That bike was right at $4K new, so $2500 is a good price without the stanchion damage. Checking Pinkbike for similar models shows one in similar shape for $2700. But the fact that he moved so much so quickly makes me wonder. Is it local? The $2K doesn't sound bad.

for 2k and youre ready to use that extra grand for repairs, then it would be a good deal.

not too sure how much suspension service is, but probably 100-200 per fork then another 100-200 for a shock. not sure about dropper posts, guess it depends on the model?

brake bleeds are like 40 a brake? but thats probably done already.

drive train/shifting stuff is normally pretty easy to fix.

wheels should be true, check the rim not the tire.

if that linkage is really damaged, you might be able to find a new link. cascade components makes upgraded linkages for some bikes, dont know if that model is offered.

used bike market can be a lot, especially buying from someone you dont know if you dont know a lot

Without having a good feel for the damage to the front fork, I would say you would have to be prepared to either service or replace the front fork at some point, whether that makes the bike worth it to you at $2000 or not is a tough call.

I would probably buy that bike at two grand being fully prepared to service or replace the front fork.
