Got my 529's and Harrop front locker installed at ECGS on Friday. They used Nitro gears (at least per my invoice).

Got there at 8am, drove off at 2pm. About what I expected.

Drive home was long (was a 3 hour drive out there, it was doubled on the way home due to needing to let the differentials cool every 50 miles.) I was running on 3 hours of sleep, so I'm sure that made the drive home painful.

I had my tune updated on Saturday, and that made a really big difference in how it drove. It drove better immediately after the gears, it was just shifting all the time. By the time I got home it had calmed down a little. Once on the updated tune it seemed to shift less, I went to a one step milder throttle setting, and the truck seemed happier. If you are driving around like a grandpa you won't see a ton of difference, if you drive a little more aggressively the benefits are immediately seen.

Truck feels way faster when you need it, and way less strained. My mileage is mostly unchanged from stock gears, but I need to re-learn the truck and find the sweet spots again. I have just a little gear noise at 70mph-75mph, under light load. Nothing worse than factory.

    I'm on 285/75/17's (34's) and about 300-350lbs extra weight.

Get Yukon gears from ECGS. Complete 5.29 3rd member makes it so much easier.

Pass on Nitro gears, the gear whine has been abundant lately. I went with Yukon from ECGS, no whine at all and I couldn't be happier.

Just got back from the maiden voyage (after break in miles) with the 5.29s.

Difference between stock gears and 5.29s is immense in my case. My truck is an absolute pig when loaded; so heavy I'm almost embarrassed to say! 285/75/17s, GFC, drawers, fridge, awning, full armor, etc...

Before the gear change, 6th was non-existent and 5th was even rare. Home base is central Nebraska, where it's flat, but almost always windy.
After installing the diffs from ECGS (w front Harrop), I felt my truck actually shift into AND HOLD 6th gear on the highway!

Our recent trip was to the San Juan Mts area in CO. We went through the Springs to Salida and cut south to the Sand Dunes, W to Durango, and back via 50 through Gunnison, up to Buena Vista and back to Springs via 24.
The trip was windy and hot. New gears were exactly what I was expecting. I did need to drop down to 3rd on some of the higher/steeper passes, but that's to be expected. I was able to consistently use 5th and 6th gear. It was no big deal staying in 4th for extended periods climbing either.
Hopefully it's even better after I get the truck tuned!

Per my invoice from ECGS I have Nitro gears.
Just about 500 miles on the new gears, will get there this weekend. So far everything I said above is still true. But now that I've had a chance to drive the truck on roads I've been driving on for close to 5 years, the truck just feels way way way better. Way less strained, way more eager to go anywhere. I've only drove it in 4LOW around the block, so not sure how it crawls, but dying to get it off road. Just a few small projects on it left (need to paint rear drums, finish sound deadening on the front doors, etc). I like having a project DONE so I can enjoy it.

Is it worth it to regear to a 5.29 with a 2 wheel drive 2017 sport? I'm sure someone has asked this, but I'm not going to delve in 205 pages to find out. Thank you.

Automatic. In any case, the thirds were sent back to ECGS as cores.

After 5.29 regear in an Automatic, what gear are folks using when towing? I believe with stock gears folks recommended staying out of overdrive gears. Does that still apply after a regear? Thanks!

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
So I would upgrade if I used my truck to tow on the regular or if you have weighed it down so much that it needs it.

If your looking for the transmission to not up shift so quickly, and your wanting your gears to hold longer than I would say a tune.

I did both. Gears and then the Tune. The gears helped me with the weight and gave the truck some more pull down low.
I did experience that the trans didn’t up shift so quickly with the 5.29s, in the end I still tuned the vehicle so the shift patterns were to my liking.

Thanks @JoeCOVA, @Texoma, and others for the valuable info. I dropped off my truck yesterday to get 5.29 gears installed and pick it up tomorrow morning. So excited, can't wait to see what the buzz is all about!

    COOL Stuff I can't afford . . . But I bought anyway!
I'm having one heck of a time getting my rear 5.29's, obviously everything is running low on stock or backordered. My question is this, would it NOT be advisable to run 5.29 gears from two different manufactures front to rear? I ask because I have the 5.29's for the front diff, but the rears are no where in sight yet, and I need to get this done. Would running the Revolution 5.29 gears up front and say Motive 5.29's in the rear be a bad thing? What would be the con's of doing so if I did?
