I'm on the third tank since the 11th. My driving is as normal as it was before having it tuned. It did take a few days to adjust my habits, especially when pulling out of a parking lot. Octane is the same. The largest issue is likely my route to and from work. I-295 and I-64 are MPG killers, especially in the afternoon. I'll keep an eye on it for another tank or two and report back. Overall, I'd recommend it any day though. It's unreal how much smoother it is to drive.

As a member of the group for over 1-1/2 years now I cannot recommend this enough to someone interested! You get to help improve the disappointing stock experience for owners like ourselves were and it's a great way to talk tacos (or other Toyotas) and provide some income for your hard work!!

Not sure what you guys are doing to be getting poor mpg, might be heavier on the foot subconsciously with the better throttle response?

After my tune I immediately saw gains in mpg. My regular commute to work is now (after 3 tanks of gas) sitting pretty at 22.5-23mpg without even trying.
I did a test to see what I would get if I really watched my throttle and speed and got a 25.5mpg on a 29mile trip doing 65mph.
In and around town I can easily pull 21mpg without batting an eye.

We had some heavy rain/extreme winds and keeping speed on the highway @ 70mph I got around 20mpg.

I would expect that is the case, this is certainly a stellar result and a conservative owner....well done btw! I could hit 22/23 on some longer trips before the post-tune mods started. Once I got around 70+, ditched the stock SR5 245/65R16s, and lifted my taco 1.5" I can only top 20/21 occasionally. I am still very pleased with that but I'll only see 23 doing downhill.

Pretty much all stock TRD OR aside from the slightly bigger AT tires. But if your adding lift, fat tires, steel bumpers and winch with rtt and racks and then complain about mpg... that's completely on you. No tune can make magic happen

    Oh man…
I’ll add that before the tune I was getting 11.5-12 MPG’s. Lift, 33’s, rear swing out bumper with full spare, Decked system filled with crap, Leitner rack, iKamper, roof rack with waterport and maxtrax, awning, other small stuff. So pretty heavy for these trucks.

    I’m averaging 15-16 now

Had the opportunity to meet a SUPER cool dude who lives about 1 1/2 miles away today. Beautiful 19 OR AT. A lot of hanging out, TSB update, XT tune on normal throttle, a FUN test drive and checking out motorcycles  Thanks @Spartacoma!

We’ll have you guys over for dinner soon! I do a mean ribeye…

@Madmax702 got me all set up on a KDMAX Pro XT tune with the normal throttle option. Max was great and super helpful. He explained the whole process and made sure to answer any questions I had.

Honestly impressed at the level of service, especially when he busted out the NOCO and Jackery to make sure my battery wouldn’t drain during the install. He got right to it and updated my ECU to the latest TSB to ensure proper functionality (and to also ensure that stealership wouldn’t be able to override his work). Once that was all good he uploaded the appropriate file for my application and made sure I was good to go.

Currently 60 miles in and my first impressions are… AYOOOOOOOO. Honestly cannot believe that I’ve allowed myself to drive the truck around untuned for the last 5 years because it feels like the tune brought my truck to life.

For some context it’s a 17 DCSB on 10 ply 33 MTs, half bumper, bolt on sliders, Prinsu roof rack, and CBI rack height bed rack. Without the tune the truck felt down on power, would never shift when I wanted/needed it to, which caused me to always turn on ECT and down shift in sport mode to get up a hill.

Honestly thought it wouldn’t make a difference but couldn’t be more wrong. It’s a hell of a difference right out the gate. Also pumped that my wife noticed and is loving the difference in power and smoothness. Will update this post after we run through this tank of gas.

Edit: alright here we go, finished a full tank and just filled up. Smiling from ear to ear.

MPG - 14 tank average pre tune, now roughly 17+ on 91. This will obviously vary between trucks and drivers but for me, this a freakin awesome.

Drivability - normal throttle is super manageable, can chill when I wanna chill and can boogie when needed. Shifts are super smooth and are occurring at appropriate times.

Power - butt dyno notices the increase, it is subtle but most definitely more powerful (it doesn’t feel like we’re hittin boost, but there is for sure more power going to the pavement).

I agree. Anyone with a 3rd gen Taco should be looking for a tuner as soon as possible. It will improve your truck more than you can imagine. It must be fun to help so many people.
