Never heard of it for a Yota transmission but some of the newer trucks TCM needs to be paired to the valve body and solenoids so they might just be covering their bases.

    No. It’s drive by wire.

the funky kind that loves to Fail. It’s only linked to 25% throttle line 03-04 tacos and 01-02 4runners

    they’re notoriously bad for failing

Interesting. This is out of your yard @Speedytech7 (Spalding). Came out of a munched 02 tacoma w/170k. Perhaps thats what they mean by reprogramming. Potential damage from the impact? Odd. One of the few 6 cylinder A340Fs on ebay. Oh well. Search continues.

Well it got over 80° today, so I put the 12k BTU circuit breaker destroyer in the window. I secretly love window units, best sleeping white noise and good focused cooling

Looks like @malburg114 is selling an 02 A340F in the 1st gen marketplace. 158K for $1000. But wait your 02 is drive by wire right?

Only 03-04 model years should be drive by wire

A small amount of late 02s did if I remember correctly. Think people argued back and forth about it in a thread but I can't find it.

Late 2002s would be 2003 model years. All 2002 model year trucks and older are cable operated throttle with a kick down cable to the trans

Really wish I could find the thread but a few guy with 02s (I'm well aware that an 03 model year would've started in late 02) were claiming to have ETCS-I/cable systems like an 03/04. This chart says so as well. But this chart is wrong about the 4Runner so who knows.

    4 run, 2 don't
4Runners are 2 years earlier on drive by wire than Tacomas.

Yes. I've had to swap a few out for friends with beater 3rd gens when they start malfunctioning. But I'm just commenting that a few individuals somewhere on TW were adamant that there were unicorn 2002 Tacomas with the hybrid cable/wire system.

That chart states that no 3rd gen 4Runner came with that system which is wrong.

ETCS-i is a rare full on miss by Toyota. They did something brands had literally been doing since the 80s (yes full electronic throttles staretd in the 80s with BMW) and made it overly pointless. They still use a cable to actuate a pedal sensor (and limp open throttle) and then the pedal sensor (that's on the throttle body) throws some wires back to the ECU which in turn throws wires back to the body to a throttle position sensor and throttle blade motor. And it's one of the slowest electronic throttles ever made. It's a wasteful lazy design, and no one retains them. The electronic trans pressure control however is smart and can be controlled independent if one goes with a standalone computer.

You sure? Engine bay pics of the truck say otherwise

I had it on my 01 4runner terrible system... never failed me but made 183 hp feel more like 140

    I'll never consider another 01/02 4r or 03/04 Tacoma

I ordered the special shielded wire, the little terminals that go into the ecu, the terminal that go into the cam position sensor plug, and the plug itself for my celica... I hope that fixes it

I just need the special crimpers for those terminals
