I got one of those a few years ago. It recently removed an axle nut that has a 300 ft/lb torque spec! Sturdy piece of kit. Don't tighten lug nuts with it...

I'm with you. I wanted something more compact. Went with the Milwaukee M12, maybe that's what you're referring to. It has plenty of oomph too.

I tighten lug nuts with that impact… I just leave it on setting two and only let it get 1 ugga-dugga before I go torque it down.

I run lug nuts back in with mine too, on setting one. Then I finish with the torque wrench. I suspect we get the same result.

 

I went on the Dewalt website this morning. Nothing about the wrenches yet. Also, there are 5 pages of Impact guns.

That stubby 1/2" 20v with the 5ah batts seems like a great choice though. It has enough power for normal jobs, more than enough for light work, and is much smaller than the first monster I posted.

 

I've invested in a pile of the DeWalt 20v tools and the first thing I did after seeing that post, was check their site for those, it's one tool I really want to add to my cabinet and it would be nice if it shared the batteries with everything else.

 

Looks like they made a whole new category of "ratchets" under power tools on the website and thats where they're hidding. Why they're not listed under automotive, or "impacts and wrenches" who knows. Even searching ratchets only brings up hand tools for 3 pages. Its like they don't want people to find them.

I don't pay much attention to their website because its only good if know what exact model you're looking for, but they did announce the "ratchets" on their social media accounts, but most of their posts have been about the powerstack batteries for months.

I'll be dropping hints until my birthday and hopefully the wifey will pick up on them. Or maybe she will just buy it for my birthday unknowingly like all the other stuff she buys me.

So with the specs being pretty much the same, 3/8" or 1/2" drive... I can always use an adapter to go from one to the other at the expense of some compactness, and I do use 3/8 drive a bit more frequently...

 

Yea, too many choices, not enough money, is the story of my life.

70 ft lbs is double my current air socket wrench so that's a no brainer. It was something I bought in a pinch and it works but is definitely underpowered on anything rusted. It is nice knowing I won't snap bolts but the damn hose is a pain in the ass in the engine bay.

 

I decided on 3/8" for a few reasons; one, I use it more often, and two, if this is their first offering in this space (battery powered ratchets) I'd expect the next to come with an increase in performance and that may be a better fit for 1/2" drive, or third, the next iteration could even be an impact ratchet and I'd go with 1/2" for that given the choice.

 

I love my Milwaukee M12 tool's. Love my M18's too.

I have the M12 Stubby impact and that thing is awesome! I have the M18 impact too but the stubby is fantastic at working on almost everything where the M18 is too big for most of that stuff.

I’ll probably go with the 3/8” since it’s most used for me too. I think they have the same specs but just the different head. I’ll probably not get the 1/2” if it ever does come out.
