    Hey guys,

I currently got a 05 Tacoma and I am about to hit the 200000 mile mark. I currently have two vehicles, and am trying to trim it down to one. I love my truck, but my other vehicle gets 35 mpg and only has 60000 miles on it compared to my Tacoma that has 200000 miles on it. I would 100% choose my Tacoma any day, but my concern is how much life it has left. As I said my other vehicle has only 60k miles in it, so I know there’s a lot of life left in it, but I am unsure about the Tacoma. If it’ll last another 100-150k miles then I would keep it and get rid of the other one, but I don’t know what the average lifespan of Tacomas are so that’s why I’m coming here to get some advice. Also my other car in mention is a 2017 Kia Optima. So if you guys were in my situation would you 1)sell both vehicles and buy a new car 2)sell the Tacoma 3) sell the optima

Your Tacoma needs it's timing Chain replaced soon. But other than that it should be just about broken in.

What exactly is your "other vehicle"?

If a guy keeps up on the maintenance, the Tacoma's can go way past 200,000 miles. If a guy just drives it without doing maintenance as needed, it'll have issues sooner then later.

Too many variables and not enough info, even for an internet guess.

But given the tidbits you offer, if the other vehicle meets your needs, the MPG and 140k less miles are quite compelling.

In this market you can get a stupid good price for the truck, and gas isn't going to plummet for a long time. If ever.

My guess is 6 months, 3 weeks, 1 day, 4 hours, 3 mins and 7 seconds.

What is your other vehicle, this will help me give you a better opinion.

A 2017 optima. The only thing I really like about it is the gas mileage and the only 60k miles. But nothing at all compared to the Tacoma I love that car

I wouldn’t change the timing chain on a 2006 Tacoma unless I did the head gaskets too.
I’d leave it alone, and sell it. It sounds like the Optima will fulfill your needs better.
Prices are high on used vehicles, sell yours while you can for the most you can.

I sold lots of things I liked/loved. But sometimes you do what needs to be done. Not what you WANT to be done.

My '05 was at 245k and doing just fine, but starting to need some pricey repairs - was due for a 4x4 overhaul and was getting a light head engine gasket leak (quoted $2.5k), and oh also I needed 2 new catalytic converters to pass smog (another $2.5k). I'd also just needed to do about $1.7k in front suspension, fluid and belt work from a rough winter of driving. So if you can afford to keep doing maintenance, it'll go for a much longer time. But it'll start adding up.

    What do you need more???
Like it's been said; if maintained well the truck has a lot more life in it!

Ya so that’s what I am trying to figure out now either sell both and get a new car. Sell the Kia and upgrade the truck, or just sell the truck and keep the kia. The other problem with the kia is that I like being up high while I drive and I also live on a farm which I can’t drive around in the fields with the kia but I can with the Tacoma and I’m also in Virginia so we do get a decent amount of snow in the winters so the 4x4 is crucial which the kia doesn’t have.

I recently got a 2007 Tacoma which will eventually be my one and only vehicle - because I need a truck. Traded in a newer SUV for it, and will eventually sell my 20 year old full size truck. For me it's the best compromise. Sure it's less capacity than my other truck, but I'm still working and the Tacoma gets much better gas mileage. And, the Tacoma is a hell of a lot more fun to drive than the SUV. Taxes will go down too.

Ask yourself, why do you own a truck?
If there aren't any practical reasons it might be best to sell it, if mpg is a concern.

If you have good reasons to own a truck, sell both and buy a 2015 Tacoma.

That's the determining factor. Kias have come to be good economical vehicles - but if you need a truck and maybe still commute to work with it, the Tacoma - even an older one is the way to go IMO.
