Yes! That's trippy as balls more guts than I. I enjoy watching odd races even if I'd never do it. I used to race lawnmowers so the fastest you could get em was 60mph. I was not good and was unable to actually drive that sorta speed on a dirt oval, even though the machine I built was more than capable

That's awesome! I wanted to build one a while back but couldn't justify the cost/reward ratio.

Hard pass! I've come to realize the not so fine line between rush and rush to hospital these days.

IMO it's gotta be an old craftsman with a peerless transaxle. The one I built also had an opposing twin briggs, shaped like a boxer motor.

Circuit rules were 60mph max, modification allowed but must start with stock equipment.

Cut drive pulley of the engine and put it on the transaxle. Take the transaxle pulley and weld it on where the engine pulley used to be. Remove the governor shaft completely and all its hardware, the less drag the better. That opposing twin didn't use an oil pump, just had oil slingers on the connecting rod cap. Shave those down till they're razor thin. Port and polish the head.. and give it a healthy porting. Double up valve springs to stop the float. Rebuild the intake plenum with copper pipe and polish the inside of the joints. Bore the carb with an engine hone and drill out the jets. Put a dirt bike cone air filter on it with custom pvc intake as a quasi ram air intake through the grill.

Crack open that beautiful ol peerless transaxle and replace any bronze bushings with actual bearings. Replace cast shift keys with steel (custom filed keystock when you're a macgyvering) Install a breather and remove all the grease for 80w90

The big money portion came into it when I cut out and replaced the front axle with a full go kart set up so I had some sort of suspension and real brakes

Fastest I got it clocked was past a speed camera near town at 56mph

Fucking things are everywhere here in summer. I cringe watching dads drive their kids around in them. (mostly rentals) Just seems like asking for trouble. Doubly so in an overcrowded beach town.

My dad used to take me around on the back of his Harley when I was 5 or so in Santa Cruz. Those things are probably a good bit safer

Have you seen that 40 min stan meyer vid about his water powered car? very impressive! That guy had it all figured out. From patents in production to product usability and interchangeability. It is amazing that he was doing that in the 80's.
