Picked tonight. Several times more still on the canes. Just 7 young bushes. Great varieties.

Plan is to root some runners and have a couple dozen of plants going. Should have a commercial size patch next year. Berries go for $25 a gallon.
We found a way to manage canes easier.
Putting automatic drip irrigation next. Little gray cells mapped out the plan.

    Planted last spring.
They need water and sunlight. I built a 2 layer trellise for them, pressure treated wood and hog panels. Works much, much better than plain wire and much easier to take care of and pick fruit.

Fruiting plants will produce more fruit when the fruit is picked. Most berries will do this beans, peppers, watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes…

We left berries on last year. No problem. Mulch with pine bark nuggets and water with Muracid. Blackberries LOVE acidic soil.
When canes get to 6 ft long, I cut the tips off. It forces the cane to thicken, so it supports fruit better and sends lateral secondary canes for more fruit.

Landscaping fabric under the gravel and mulch, except for a 2ft wide circle around each bush.

Panels are secured to the 2x4x8 by SS hanger tape and painted, outdoor screws. Turned edge of the tape under, doubling it up, so it cannot scratch plants or hands.

Some, but there are so many barries, we do not miss the berries. I try to keep the canes at or below the post height, so I can always put a bird net over, if needed.
Panels support canes on 4 sides, on 2 levels and canes just lay down on the panels, when heavy with fruit. Still get plenty of sunlight and good airflow to minimize dseases.

Is a heat pump similar to a swamp cooler?

Sat. Sun, hot, but Mon rain with temp in the low 70's.
