Had a strange experience on the trail today...

I don't think I've ever run into giant assholes 4 wheeling before. Most of the people I've run across have always been super cool and friendly. We have common interests and hobbies after all. No one has ever been less than civil.
Went up to pole hill to get away from the heat. There are several outlook areas that are pretty cool. Started heading up one of the spurs to an outlook and there was a felled tree across it. Stopped and was contemplating dragging it out of the way or just going to another one when I heard someone yelling up ahead. Then I could make out several jeeps and at least one tear drop camper in the trees. Normally, I'd steer clear of a campsite out of respect, but I was a little taken aback by the audacity to barricade the trail and now this guy is yelling at me and making "shooing" hand motions.
So I yell "What?" back at him and he yells "Get the fuck out of here! Your piece of shit Toyota wouldn't make it anyway!"
I don't give a crap about a Toyota comment but really? You're going to block a trail and swear and yell at me to get out? In hindsight, I probably should've just left at this point but I was somewhere between confused and slightly pissed.
"Did you buy this place or what?" I yelled back. Now the guy comes charging up to my truck. I thought about leaving at this point but I didn't want to take my eyes off him. When he gets to my driver side window, either the sidearm in my lap or the low menacing growl of my German Shepard from the back seat made his eyes get big and he started stammering about how it was just a dead end and they were camping there with a bunch of dogs and he was just joking, etc. "I'm not trying to be a dick" he said. "Well you're kinda coming across as one" I told him, and he headed back the way he came waving his buddies back. I had thoughts of getting some pictures and license plates but I wasn't sure anything would come of it and I didn't want things to escalate.
I sure hope this remains an anomaly and isn't an indication of the way things are going.

The irony is that my first offroading trip in Colorado is what convinced me to carry all the time in the backcountry and to get my conceal permit. Ran into some really nasty people who were in the wrong, but wanted to tell our group that we were in the wrong (but we weren't). They weren't havin' any of our trail leader's "stay the trail" education. It's possible shear numbers (our big group versus their few folks) kept things from going too sideways.

Glad to hear your situation did not escalate into something worse.

    Stuff. Also things.
Sorry you had to deal with that and it sucks that it happened on that trail. Pole Hill is one of my favorites.

But it’s also the same trail where my son and I scored the primo spot overlooking the Notch and the killer view of Estes Park. As we were eating breakfast at the fire ring, with my RTT deployed and a camp table set up, this tour group with the douchiest guide literally drove through the middle of the camp, parked, and puked a half a dozen tourists out to wander around our campsite.

The magnitude of some people’s ignorance and obliviousness is truly staggering.

And now people are price cutting when we are moving back…:anonymous:

Temporarily in the Tallyn’s Reach part of Aurora. The tentative plan is a new build we contracted on already in Castle Rock, but seeing price declines occurring we may reconsider and start looking at resales up north.
