:pccoffee:  Good morning! Having a mini heat wave, heading to the upper 80's or 90 today. My strange illness passed about as quickly as it came on and I'm feeling almost normal already. I did give myself a DIY ***** test the other day when I felt the worst; those are no fun. Came back negative.

We have cable and DSL. When I worked for "a major cable provider" I needed to be sure of having internet connectivity because I was on call 24x7x365. Our little podunk electric company, us living in the woods, plus our little podunk cable company, add up to less than reliable service whenever the weather is bad, and even though the DSL speeds are horrid due to our distance from the source it is at least reliable. Now that I'm retired we don't really need the backup but I keep it anyway. We're too far away from the OTA stations to get any sort of useable signal, especially now that they've gone digital. I don't even try anymore.

Elon Musk keeps shooting dozens of little satellites into the sky, supposedly to blanket us with high speed internet from the skies. I keep an eye on that as an alternative but so far it is not available here. https://www.starlink.com/

I just happened to read this thread the day after getting my second shingles shot. I was up all night shivering. At least I know I'm not the only one with side effects.

How's the quality of those inside antennas? I pay for cable and never ever watch it. With Hulu, Netfix, HBO Max, Apple TV, all I needed cable for was to watch local channels. I'd like to dump it.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gal! Son's coming over this morning to get the back splash panels put back on the Darth Previous, then I have some greenhouse work to do. Just swap out a noisy fan, and move some plants.

Figured out the problem with the phones late Friday while I was in the garage working. Wind blew that door shut (the one that I can finally open), and I opened it and found the forgotten phone, dangling off the hook. It's been there since ATT days where if you had "electronic phones" you had to have an old mechanical to get 911 in a power failure. It was very seldom used, but it was connected. So, it's really useless now with the phone line off a modem, and it's been removed. Which meant I could go run that line back in the office to the house jack, and move the base back to the dining room, and HAPPY wife. No one had to go to the attic, either.

I probably have to adjust my antenna twice a year. It's strange, because I have a wide driveway across the street from me and the reception changes when the guy using the driveway moves his camping trailer. He hunts in the fall so when the trailer disappears the antenna needs to be moved, and when it comes back again adjusted.
Other than that the local maintenance of the broadcasting towers is sometimes puzzling. A channel or two might be off for anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days. The remaining channel has the same news anyways... so no big deal.
Other than that reception is good.

I think an outside antenna on the roof might solve the minor issues, but those issues are so minor that it isn't a problem anyways...

Check this channel out on Youtube.
He tell it like it is with all the antennas he reviews.
    Lots of information to digest...

Morning porch peep friends. Another day of 100+ here in northern central California. Ordinarily it would be a pool day, but that’s not happening due to this damn Covid. I love to read and watch old movies but I also really like social activities, and puttering around my garage, building small projects, working in my veggie garden, fishing, boating, going out for breakfast or dinner and on and on. This isolating is making me and my wife crazy.

Covid update - this is day 6 or 7 , depending on what day we noticed the symptoms . My wife is about a day and half behind me. Symptoms are improving. I took the last of my antivirals this morning. Still have an occasional cough, a little runny nose. The fever is gone. I still feel a little weak and I fatigue easy. Went out and worked in my garden for 30 minutes yesterday, got fatigued and had to come in and rest. Did another test this morning for fun and still Covid positive. So again, it’s like having a nasty cold and maybe a little worse. We are fortunate our symptoms have been mild but we still feel like shit. I think that is due in part to the fact that we live fairly healthy lives, eat healthy (although I love my sweets and desserts, my steak and bbq ribs and my red wine and occasional whiskey), we exercise daily and especially we are both vaccinated and boosted.
I can tell you, you all do not want this virus. Stay healthy and be safe.
